1984 R 65 undergoing some major love.
My second airhead- other was sold- 78 R100S
This one comes to me running, but rough.. Its undergoing
Push rod seals and all stuff that this entails
Carb cleaning, steering bearings, tires, well just about everything
Eye on making her not a BMW show piece, but a reliable ride for small tours, bad roads, twisties, commutes... Basically everything....
Gonna ride till the wheels fall off
Hoping to lean on this site for some education and inspiration of all things R65

Glad to have another member from the great white north join us here.   There are a few R65 members closer to Toronto and its outskirts, not sure that we've had someone from Ottawa before.   Last time I was riding in your area was 2007 when we were riding up to Sault Ste Marie on our way to the BMWMOA rally in Wisconsin..

Having visited Ottawa once some years ago it's an impressive city.  Your Museum of Civilisation is the best I seen anywhere in the world and the urban transport system is impressive too.

I spent a night in the city jail while I was there - very comfortable.

This is The Spot for R65 information, ideas, techniques and a little bit of good-natured BS.

I have a 1978 R100S in my small Airhead herd. I believe that there's not too much difference from the performance of the R90S.

Post up a photo when you can; as we maintain a long-held belief that without a photo of your bike, it really doesn't exist.

The old Ottawa city Jail and it really is in the centre of Ottawa has been converted into a Youth Hostel so you have to pay for the privilege of sleeping in the old cells, bars and all. I have to confess we went posh and upgraded to one of the prison warder rooms.  Still quite an experience and very convenient for the city.

That was a good holiday. After a few days in Ottawa we went to pick up the small rental car that we had booked and paid for but found they knew nothing about our booking.  "We only have one car in so you'll have to have that".  They brought around a brand new almost zero miles 5.7 litre Chrysler 300C. That's a seriously big car to a Brit. It looked like a mobsters car so we nick named it the Beast and had a fantastic holiday.

It was a Victorian era Jail which has the distinction of holding Canada's last execution (hanging)
And home to numerous ghosts.. Its right downtown, mere blocks away from Ottawa pub district "the Market"

In downtown Concord, NH (near me) the old city jailhouse is now a Mexican restaurant, and the basement jail rooms are converted into individual dining booths.   It is also said to be haunted, particularly a couple of the cells where the prisoners hanged themselves rather than go to trial.

Welcome aboard Relic.  Best of luck with getting her up to snuff, though it sounds like you don't need any luck.  Nice that you're not making it a "showpiece"  ...you'd ruin the patina that airheads wear so well.


Looks like you've got an LS seat with racks that fit under it.  If those racks hold Krauser bags I'd be interested in them if you don't want to keep them.  I bought a set of panniers here but never found a rack that fits my LS  (and if you're dead set on keeping the racks, I've got a set of bags laying around  )

Well more from the shop-
Rubber bumper in left shock disintigrated.. Ordered parts... Full strip and rebuild.. 10 wt spectro going in..
Top end gaskets and junk coming so left side jug on strip down.. My first crack at pulling cylnders... All other bikes Ive had have been bearing, carbs and ancilary to the engine/tranny.. So this bike, im going to the heart of it (well not too deep, but its deep enough for now)
My shop is pretty basic..So its kinda like roadside repairs "with benefits"  

@ Luca, I have to keep those racks, and I do have panniers for em.. If they have to go Ill let you know

I'd never heard that story! Now I wanna go, even tho Mexican food around here is hit-or-miss at best.  :-/
