Interested in being a moderator for this forum?
« on: June 16, 2012, 11:47:46 AM »
Hey there, fellow R65 lovers....

I informed Justin yesterday that I felt like it was time for me to turn over the moderator title to someone else in this forum who would like to help Justin and Rob V. keep this wonderful forum in order.  Since I sold Britta last year, I just haven't visited this forum as often as I used to do when I was a proud R65 owner.  Since I bought my R1200CLC, the vast majority of my time online as been at the chromeheads.org forum.

I feel the membership here should have a moderator who is into the R65 experience, hook, line, and sinker.  There are many of you out there who are in this category, and know a whole helluva lot MORE about R65s than I do!

Justin does a great job of keeping this forum going, but he deserves a little help.  Surely, one of you R65 members out there will be willing to serve as moderator and help keep discussions in the proper category, delete spam crap, move threads as needed, etc.

I hope to own another R65 one day (if I do, it will be the R65LS, which was the original BMW that I fell in love with a long time ago), and I still intend to drop in every now and then to check to see what everyone is yakking about.

I hope someone will send Justin a PM and let him know that you are interested in helping him out as a moderator.  I hope this forum will be around for a long, long time to come!  Thanks, guys and gals!   [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Wish I had the skills but my poor compuKer knowledge, plus me being a Mac cat, would make a bodge of it.

And I cannot promise how long I will be around, once I sell off all of my bike.

I may be interested in at least trying to help out with this.
About how many hours per week does it seem to be taking you guys (I fully understand that some weeks are more than others)...

I'm really not sure exactly how much work the mods take off my shoulders but I'm thinking answering basic questions, moving threads, etc.

Bob said he would give it a try so I'll toss Mike into the deep-end as well and maybe Rob can outline to them the kind of stuff he routinely deals with.

About the only REAL moderating I do is to move a new thread started by (usually a first-timer) that gets started in the FAQ section and should be in the general tech section.

That takes about 30 seconds, and only happens every few months.

Sometimes, when I am in the mood, I will attempt to resize the HUGH images that some folk post.

I don't remember seeing any spammer activity in a while.  I think Justin has that under control.

I am the ONLY moderator for the Coppermine Gallery, although Justin has powers there as well.
That kept me VERY busy, as it was not as tight as the forum, and spammers were constantly registering themselves, even though they could not post until activated by me.
But I still had to go through and look at the names to be sure there were no valid users trying to register.
Finally I turned off auto-registration.  Now the only way you can get registered for Coppermine is to send me a PM request and I create your account, which you then go into and change the password and customize your profile.

I also do the Google Map thing, which I came up with on my own.
If any of you are a map-freak like myself, you may want to join me in this venture.
I tried making it so anyone could edit the map, but that got too out of control.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
The forum is NOT spam intensive, where you spend your every free moment cutting the heads off of dragons that sprout back with two!

Spammers are hopefully a thing of the past since I manually register every new user after an e-mail request.

Way to step up, Mike and Bob!  I can't think of two people that are more dedicated to the R65 and this forum than you two!  I know the forum will be in good hands now!   ;)
