I lived most my life in various parts of the northeast US... most of which had more rain than sun and more winter than summer. Between the weather and post-college finances, I never could justify buying a motorcycle.
Then i got a new job and moved to Mountain View, CA.
We moved in August and I don't think it rained until November.
Coincidently, I saw a Groupon for a two hour Beginner Motorcycle Class. Less than a day after taking that course, i was signed up for a MSF course and had already developed an unhealthy craigslist checking addiction.
Even before i took the course, a friend of mine (who is restoring a K75) forwarded me an add for a R65 for $1100. It was right in the price range I was looking for in a first bike and after a bit of research thought it could be a good first bike.
That evening my friend was driving the bike home through the Santa Cruz mountains. He got off the bike with a grin from ear to ear and promised me that if i decide to ever get a different bike, or give up on riding, he'll buy it from me without hesitation.
A few weeks later, after some money thrown to the local BMW/Triumph shop, i have a bike that runs wonderfully and makes commuting a joy.
I look forward to learning more about the bike from you all and can't wait until tomorrow's commute.
