And yet another new member here..

Hi all!!!
Long time BMW rider, and I'm actually on my second R65, a 1981 that I picked up last spring as a trade for a fishing boat..

The other R65 was a 86' monoshock that I sold in an effort to find a monoshock R80.. 10 years later, I found it.. ;)

Other than that, the other bikes that hide in my garage are a 2005 R1200GS, a 02' KLR650 and life's too short to not have a scooter, so I've got a 93' Honda Helix..

Been riding BMW's since 1988, when I purchased a K75c.

Long story short, I've had a lot of them over the years..

The little R65 had some issues when I bought it, but I've sorted out most and enjoy riding it.. My next quest on it is to modify a set of Monoshock bag mounts, and then mount a set of aluminum panniers. . Should convert it into a nice little touring bike..

Anyway, I'm looking forward to chatting bikes, new and old..

Twin discs up front. Dat'sa nice. Very few American imports had twins, save for the LS models.

Do you miss the hole in the water? ;) And what is the "72" deal? My old eyes can't cypher the words. Local 5-0 riding R65s?

While you're surfing eBay, keep your eyes out for side panels. Dealers still have them but I often see some on eBay asking more money for used than new. Go figure.

Actually, I've found side covers (new/primed) and have painted them flat black and they've got R65 stickers on them now.. The bike was missing side covers, both tool boxes, the speedo read 85 all the time, and there were a few other issues..

I've replaced the speedo of of eBay with a 120 mph unit, found tool boxes, completely rebuilt the carbs (oddly they're flat tops)..

The 72 towel is my rider number for GLMC's Grand Tour. Last year it was towns that had to do with Water..

The original side covers were ground, so I replaced them and painted them after sanding off the paint on them, and shooting with clear..

It's been a fun project!!

Hi Paper,

A warm welcome, nice idea on the covers, I might have a go at that myself...
