BMW AG corporate logo requirements.

I don't know how this going to play out here because this is not a club per say.  But BMW AG is putting down the foot on the use of their corporate logo and the words BMW by clubs in the US.  My Georgia club is under a December 2011 deadline to re-design it logo to bring it into BMW AG corporate standards.

This site is not a club but it will probably draw the ire of BMW lawyer types eventually.

The BMW logo which BMW clubs are now obliged to use represents a rider in a racing crouch on a fairing fitted bike. It's the total opposite of what I look like and feel like. I guess the same still goes for a few old-fashioned BMW riders.

Could the roundel be removed from the bottom of the patch and have the bottom portion quartered blue and white, thereby retaining the mid and top portions of the patch?

But, I think that IF BMW comes to us demanding we stop using their corporate symbol/logo, we *could* technically just make that bottom semi-circular part a 4-part blue -white block pattern and be OK.  The blue and white checkerboard pattern is part of the official Bavarian flag, so we could say that we were using that symbol pattern and not the BMW roundel pattern

It seems odd that an informal association of owners of one type of vehicle might not be allowed to use the identifying mark of that type. Could the acronym "BMW" even be used? Would a member of Facebook not be allowed to tell anyone that he is a member of Facebook on account of the name being trademarked? Have the lawyers really taken over?

I went through all of this for the Vintage BMW Motorcycle Owners club.  The design requiremetns are very specific.

Probably the "signet" portion of the current logo will move right over to the new design, and it's just a matter of getting the words right at the top, along with generating different sized logos for the club's use.
