Well..sold off my R65 with sidecar. It went from Texas to Vermont. Got my R90/6 late Friday night.....just in time tp make the Harvest Classic rally Saturday. Ran into Monte..always fun to connect with. The R90 has a bit more power than the R65 did..I actually passed some folks on the way to the rally. Steep hills and strong head winds are no longer a problem. Best of all ...and the main reason I sold the R65 off is the sidecar. It is huge compared to the little Steib LS200. The sidecar is an extremely rare Dutch made Hollandia. The Dutch police used sidecar motorcycles for they were safer in the snow and ice. When Steib sidecars started going out of business in the 1960's..the Dutch cops were suddenly without a source for their Steib TR500 sidecars. A small Dutch company was set up to produce sidecars for the police and also made a few for the civilian market. The company started in the 1960's and was out of business by the mid 1970's. The sidecar is built like a tank..heavier than a Ural...huge trunk..a suspension that makes it feel like you floating down the road. It is so easy to get in and out of...you just step in. Have a few changes to go...not yet happy with the running lights..stop and turn lights. A bunch of lights may mean a up grade on the charging system. Will convert to LED lights too. I was always tinkering with the R65 and will on this one too. But for now I am excited..enjoying.

Yep, I saw this beauty -the sidecar rig, not Scotty- in person on Saturday in beautiful, downtown Luckenbach, Texas.

Hope Scotty scored an award as I truly believe he had the best hack in class.

That certainly IS a beautiful new rig!   I'll have to keep my eyes open for your R65 rig on my rides over to Vermont!

How is the braking on your new rig with the single front disk and the heavier chair?   I'm getting closer to bolting my Sputnik on to my '78 R100/7 which also has only the single swinging ATE caliper on the front at present.   I'm working out ideas on how best to rig up the sidecar brake, too

Nice looking rig Scotty.  Congratulations on the new ride.  FYI, the DFW BMW group is hosting a sidecar ride on Saturday November 5.  Meet for brekky at LaPeep in Bedford, leave there around 9am and ride to the BMW shop at Hwy 10 & Loop 820 to drink free coffee, kick tires, take photos, swap lies, etc., the leave there and ride up to the Twisted Root for burgers and more of the same.  If I can figure out how to download the flyer from gmail I'll post it here.

I am not sure on the brake system yet. I told Monte I have yet to make a panic stop and really test the system. I have made a few hard stops...just testing and it seems to handle good. The sidecar wheel is actually a R90/6 back wheel. So.....if needs be..I can add a brake without to much trouble.

That does look great! Just think, if only the seat could fold down flat into the rear luggage section, you could sleep in there!!! The RV motorcycle!

Brilliant idea; I wouldn't have to use a tent for touring Alberta.

Exactly my dream too! Even if you took a tent for any longer stays as the wee sidecar might be a smidgen snug but for those "just pull in late or afternoon quick naps, it would be a godsend. Not to mention raining!! Ok...that's a motel!
If those rear luggage compartment hinges allowed the lid to go back completely to a horizontal position out the back it could be a table and the backrest for the seat made removable.....the seat could lay flat. Keep your gear in a waterproof duffel and just lay it outside when sleeping. Need a tarp fly; mosquito netting..hmmm...ideas abound!  8-)
