Calling Altritter! (John)
« on: August 05, 2011, 07:55:41 PM »
If anyone is personal friends with John or knows his email address, please contact him and have him check his PM's here.
I wrote to him a few days ago, but he hasn't been online since 31 July.

Thanks.

I wonder what happened to Altritter?  He hasn't logged on since 31 July!

He has first dibs on my leg shields.  He's going to be upset if he misses out on them, although they are going to be expensive due to repairs and repainting.  ($200 +shipping).

I'm not sure - hopefully all is OK and he will login again soon.

I saw a couple other airheads at the Bloomsburg PA rally with leg shields like yours - possibly not exactly the same, but very similar.   They sure would be really handy in the colder climates, not so useful in the 100F+ temps we had there for that rally!

Sorry it's been so long, but the past 6 weeks have been eventful. I just signed on and read Rob's PM this morning, and I've (i) apologized to him via PM for being out of touch (Gotta check my settings—I'm supposed to get an email when there's an important message on this forum.), and (ii) green-lighted him to sell the guards if he gets an offer before I can get my stuff sorted out. I'd love to have them, but a couple of events this summer have caused me to rearrange my priorities. No illness or injury, but two minor but costly auto mishaps in the household, combined with some R65 expenses caused in large part by my not exercising it enough.  :-[

I'll try in the future to check this forum at least once a week. It is, by a wide margin, my favorite bike forum, as well as my favorite discussion group overall.

Cheers,
John

And as I told John in a PM reply, I am taking the shields off the market for the time being.

There is this job I REALLY want, and I just found out that the owner of the business [who has been reluctant to hire me] is a Mercedes-Benz fan (his e-mail prefix is "indy450sl"...).
So I wrote him again yesterday and told him how I was enraptured by the 300SL in my youth, and the glamor of pre-war M-B that I've seen since the internet came on, and how, due to my not-rich status in life I was left with only the ability to collect motorcycles (back down to one, now).  But most importantly I made the reach for a personal connection of a common love of German machinery.

I included this picture in my email:

Cheers everyone!

Open doors, open windows..
I am presently between job assignments - which actually means that I've finished my last one and haven't found a new one/customer yet.   Despite whatever advertising I do, it is more often through networking that I get job leads and interviews.  And, the networking often is demonstrating strange connections between business and personal life/relationships.   Very strange.  I'm sure some scientists at facebook are studying it.

Good luck Rob - we are all pulling for ya!

Oh, BTW, I did hear back from him yesterday.
The position I applied for a few weeks back was for a full-time scanner, doing stamps, coins, trading cards and first-day covers; and putting the scans into auctions.  He is a big eBayer.

He said he had filled that position, but that he had need of someone to do the packaging of said items and get them in the mail, and that after that was done for the day, I would do scanning/assembling for the remainder of the day.  And he asked if I would be interested in something like that.
I wrote back immediately and said I was very interested in anything that would get my foot in the door.

According to his original ad, the jobs started at $9/hr but the right person would see $15 by 60 days.
I could live on $15.

So I am still waiting for my phone to ring, but I wrote him again today and asked if I could start before the end of the week.
