New to the Forum, not the R65

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum, and just lurking till now.....I am the proud owner of a 1980 R65 that I purchased in 1980. Great bike that has carried me thru all over the East coast of the US--
In 2003 I purchased a new Honda VFR that I've been riding exclusively since then.

But, I have the R65 apart now and want to start a cafe project.

Heres a question--are the wire spoke wheels or hubs unobtanium?

Welcome to the forum.  To the best of my knowledge the R65 did not have spoked wheels.  It may be possible to fit a set of R80 spoked wheels.  Anyone else have an opinion on that?

Lots of folks have the idea of going cafe with the R65, and I have to admit I flirted with that idea at one time, but extensive modification is necessary to make it look right.  The very best example I've ever seen is the bike done by our very own Steve "where's me hacksaw" Hawkins.  Steve may still lurk around here.

If you want some BMW cafe ideas this is the place to look. Mostly our larger brothers, type 247 engines, but the ideas are universal. It gets me excited to take out the hacksaw every time I look through it.

If you do put a laced wheel on the front, make sure it is at least a 2.15" width rim.  It will make the 100/90 or the 90/90 handle soo much better.  I currently have a 2.50" rim on the front of my R65 via a 1988 K100 front end.

I think R80ST parts are interchangable with the R65.  The R80ST had a laced front wheel.
