It is a R 80. I am considering the purchase of this but it will need some SERIOUS work.

Looks like it should clean up OK, though you'll probably have to replace much of the exhaust system (I think that model year has the under-transmission 'muffler' as well).

I think that it used to be an R80RT, of 1985 or later vintage, judging from the monolever swingarm, oil cooler and wheels/brakes - that someone converted to a 'naked' bike (perhaps b/c of fairing/fiberglass accident damage) with an earlier model headlight bucket (ignition key on headlight ear).  If the engine internals aren't rusty, it could be certainly resurrected if you have the time and patience.   The price would have to be reasonably low.

Definitely a headlight from either an R90, 75 or 60.  Is that a ATE single disk on the front?  Could be an entire front end swap.  If so It might not hurt to pull the tank to check the frame for damage.

Just once, I'd like to buy a used motorcycle from myself.  That is one that already had all the money poured into it by someone else.

Let us know how it turns out.

Looks like reversed Brembos with the double Allen head pinch bolts that were on the 86-89 monolevers to me.  I think that those monolever wheels won't peacefully coexist on a /7 era fork, thought the top end of the fork assembly looks very similar to the /7 style - even on the later vintage monolever bikes.  The integrated fender bracket/fork brace is there from teh late 80's models, too. As my 88 bike was an R100RT, I don't have any good pics of the top part of the fork assembly visible..

As long as the price is right (.ie. "low") that could certainly be a turned into a fun ride with enough personal initiative..

I LOVE my R65 with its K100RS front end.  Best money I ever spent!   8-)

Theres a discussion about a r80 mono that someone is thinking of buying on another forum im on, I know nothing about them but the consensus is that pre 85 is a minefield with poor electrics.

You can all relax now - I didn't get it. After a serious survey, there was just too much to do. It would have needed:
A total engine overhaul (pistons, rings, bearings and barrels)

Fork Overhaul

Total electrical Overhaul

Gearbox overhaul

Not to mention paint, chrome and re registration

I AM NOT THAT BORED!
