Melena, I will be working at the Vintage Display (in the Beef Barn).  That might be a good place to meet.

My cell # is 831-359-8178 (if you want to exchange numbers, just text me something and I'll save your number).

I'm leaving on Tuesday, but I'm driving up in my little pickup so I can bring a couple old bikes... alas, the R65 will not be among them, not enough room.

Ever had cabin fever in the summer time?  Man, this being grounded and not being able to ride has got me feeling like a hunting dog in a pen.  I'm glad you folks are able to go to the rally.  Ya'll better take lots of pix and post them so we can see what we're missing.

Oh, Mike... Waa, waa, waa :'(

I know for a fact you've been chillin' in your pool, plus several Shiner Bock beers are MIA at the crib. And there's work being done on your herd.

Life is good, pardner. Heal up and meet me on the Three Sisters in August. We'll make up for your down time.

Great idea Darryl!  I just may be camping over that way.

Poor Mr. Phorqs.   I don't mean to be redundant, but..........[smiley=nopity.gif]
Wait a minute!  A pool and beer?  And you're trying to get us to feel sorry for you? [smiley=rolleyes.gif]

Well, I'm sure you'll make it up later.  But it is too bad you guys from Texas can't ride out to the West and visit our wide open spaces.   [smiley=Oscar.gif]

Really, though, I'm just getting excited about actually leaving on Sunday.  I'm all packed and ready except for the little things that I forget about and have to go find to put on the pile.

And now I can't find my little R65 LED flaslight that Justin was so good to find for us.  Darn.  My favorite flashlight too.  I haven't seen it since I got back from the 49er Rally.   :(

It looks like I'll head over on Friday.  After all, it's only about a 3 hour ride.

I'm paranoid though, as yesterday I stopped on the way home, and the R65 wouldn't turn over.  I was able to push start it, but it still wouldn't start when I got home.  Then this afternoon I tried it and it worked fine.  It's hard to trouble shoot a problem when it's not manifesting the problem.  I'll go over connections tomorrow but I hope I can find a spare starter relay too.

Ed, I'll be looking forward to meeting up with you.  Darn about the starting problems.  If you make it to the rally and it doesn't start, there will be lots of people there who can help fix it.   ;)  But it's hard to start a trip with a problem like that.  If, and it's a big if, you can't get it fixed, come on over in your car.  It's okay to do that if your bike isn't working.  We won't tell.   ;)

I am headed out in the morning.  It's a bit more than a 3 hour ride for me - More like 12 or 14 hours depending on traffic.  I've been so busy getting things together so I can leave that I'm really looking forward to getting out of here and getting on the road.  It will definitely be more restful.   ;D

I am a bit apprehensive about riding the 45 down (the 'what ifs' keep popping into my head), but hey, isn't that what AAA if for?

But I took the bike on a nice, 60 mile ride today, and she ran like a champ.  So, no more excuses, I'm packing up tonight and will head out early on Thursday.

~6 hour ride for me.

It would be nice but i'm not confident that the r65 would make it that far, nor do I have the vacation time to dedicate to it.

I wish there were more airhead events in the AZ area.

I haven't heard of any snow..some golf ball sized hail stones which I guess if glued together would be sorta like snow. Maybe the high Arctic near the north pole has some but not for long. We've been in the 80's for sometime around Georgian Bay, ON. Lots of heat waves for us anyway all over the country except a lot of rain in Sask, my favourite province ;)
1983 R65LS - LRB still my favourite!? 1988 Honda NX250, "Toodles Too" and a Suzuki DR650, "Calypso." All stored in the "Brrrmmm Closet".

Am I the first one back???

I missed the Boxerworks meeting at the gate, but amazingly (for phoneless me) I did find Melena and she told me we were all meeting at 7:30 Sat. night, and we did!  I met Melena, R65lust, Dee (and her R45) and somebody else with an R45, some guy (don't know if he's on the forum) with an R65 that he had converted to a GS, and probably others that didn't register.  It was fun.  When Melena gets home there will be pictures, and if my eyes are wet in the pictures it's just because we were staring into the setting sun.

I signed the flag (Why isn't Justin on it???) next to my cousin Monte's sig, and also signed the one Melena crocheted to send to our southern hemishere friends.

Sunday morning I had a chance to talk with Terry V., who is on this forum, and he told me some interesting things he's found on his newly acquired R65 (...or should it be R85?) but I'll let him share when he feels like it.  He missed seeing the others.

I got to go to an airhead tech session on Saturday being offered by Mat Parkhouse and Joe Michaud (I'm not sure about how to spell his last name.) that tried to focus on electrics, especially relays.  It was good.  Basically I had a good time at the Rally, and good riding to and from it.  Oh, and be ready to hug Melena when you meet her!   :D

Great to meet (almost) everybody and see some cool bikes, even if it was only for a short time.  Fun!
I made to the rally late Friday after everything closed, and planned to show up Saturday after a 200+mile ride and see the sights, but my Honda's fuel injection system had a short and it took all afternoon to figure it out.  I showed up again after everything closed again, but I at least made the R65 meeting!  Ride safely!

Howdy,Howdy,
Got back from Redmond yesterday afternoon and back at work (bummer).  Had a good time at the rally and put more weight on.  Was nice meeting some of the R65 group there.  Some people just don't know what to think of my bike (Junior) as it is highly modified.  :o They had a GS Anti concours event there and I won first place in the Airhead section in the "Most distracted" class".  :D Meaning someone is really distracted when they see it.  The world famous round the world GS rider/writer  Helge Peterson presented me the big bronze medal and other memorabelia on the podium (plywood on top of barrells).  So I was a happy camper.  Prior to the Redmond rally I was putting the old R65 to work on the trails between Burns Or. and Redmond while I was on the Nez Perce Dual sport rally with about 40 others.  Saw lots of pretty sights and got just as many mosquito bites! >:(  Here is a shot of Helge standing in back of Junior.

Did the weather cooperate, the temps there on the east side of the Cascade mountains, can get quite hot this time of year !
