Another one gets hit...SCJJR65 :-(
« on: May 20, 2010, 12:42:24 PM »
This just in from John's wife, via Facebook....

------------------------------
Ok, so this is Pattimarie and I just got home from the Greenville Memorial Hospital ER. On his way home from work last nite, John was hit by a Hit & Run driver. He is doing very well... however, he did fracture his right knee cap and his left thumb was dislocated at one joint and shattered. He will be having surgery on his knee this morning (don't know what time yet). He was extremely lucky that there is nothing else wrong.

The car was found a few blocks away from the accident site and we were told at the ER by one of the Highway Patrol Officers that the driver was brought back to the scene by a friend. The guy has been arrested on Felony DUI and leaving the scene of an accident. His bond hearing is this morning at 9:30 - I will be there asking for the highest possible bond available.

I will keep everyone informed of what is going on... I will have the laptop at the hospital when I go back in a couple of hours. So, you can get me via Facebook or email. Plus, my cell # is (xxx) 329-xxxx.

Pattimarie
------------------------------------------
Send me a PM is you're interested in her phone# - don't really want to post it here.

NCSteve has talked to Pattimarie and sent this update....

--------------------------
I've gotten some of your Facebook emails, but the site is blocked here at work, so I haven't been able to respond.
She says John's right knee and left thumb are shattered, and he's already had surgery this morning on the knee. The doctors have said the hand will be trickier, and he will require several pins to get the thumb back together. He also took a hit to the head, but he said other than a few stitches over one eye and a busted lip, he's okay there. Says he never lost consciousness either, and has already asked about his bike, but she hasn't seen it yet to check its' damage. She said one of the 1st things he said when he got out of surgery was, "Guess I won't be getting to Willville for a while, huh?"

So, it sounds like he will be alright, but she was at his job when I called her, working out disability leave and $$$ details, She says he could be out of work for up to 3 months, and will need a good bit of physical therapy. I asked her to call back when she has more details, and hopefully I'll be able to talk to him as well.

More details will follow as they become available, but I wanted to get word out that he's going to be alright. R65.org is also blocked here, so if anyone wants to post there about his accident, please do. Oh, and they did get the guy who hit him and he's being held for felony DWI, hit & run,and a few other charges. Pattimarie said the judge has already set his bond sky high, so looks like he'll be in jail at least until his hearing, probably sometime next week.
See y'all later, and be careful out there!

Steve

Not good news to say the least .

Hopefully John's recovery will be quick .

Just another stark reminder, of the constant hazards that are around us, when we choose to get on two wheels .

Aida, thanks a lot for getting this info out. I've just gotten an email from PattiMarie that says.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

John has had surgery on his right knee and is resting semi-comfortably. He's been moved to room 2418 @ Greenville Memorial Hospital. His right leg needs to stay immobile for the time being. Not sure how long he will have to stay in the hospital.... but I'm thinking that he won't be released any time soon. He's sleeping off the anesthesia and keeps drifting in and out. Thank you everyone for all the well wishes and love being sent out to him. We love you all bunches!

Everyone, please keep them both in your thoughts and prayers.

Well, now Pattimarie is on the other end.  How long ago was it that the tables were turned and John was taking care of her after her major accident?  Just a couple of years, I think.  I just hope this doesn't put an end to his/her riding.  Although, I would certainly understand if Pattimarie wasn't too thrilled with the idea anymore.

We're keeping both of them in our thoughts and prayers.  Thanks for the update, Steve.  And keep 'em coming.

Will do, although I'm heading to Willville in the morning. I had hoped to get away late this afternoon, but have got a taillight problem I'm trying to fix. For the next couple of days I'll probably stay in touch with them via cell.

Beyond tonight, can I call you with any more details if I get them, and let you post 'em up here? If so, do you still have the same # that begins with 919 and ends with ..48? If not, PM or email me, OK?

And PS: I could be wrong, but I doubt this will put John off riding. He loves it, lives and breathes bikes, been riding all his life, and I can't see him walking away. Or even PM trying to push him: she knows how much it means to him. Hell, he hasn't even owned a car in years!

Best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery with as little discomfort and pain as humanly possible. DUI's, never ceases to amaze me.  Embrace and make the most of every minute of every day folks.  It can be taken from us in a split second by no fault of our own.

These people need to start paying for their stupid irresponsible behavior "before" they kill or destroy innocent people and thier families. I'm totally sick of this BS.

That is all.

Oh my, my, this is very bad news! John is just so much fun and full of enthusiasm when I met him in TN that I am pretty sure this energy will go a long way towards a quick healing timeframe. But dang, it isn't going to be easy. All my blessings to John and Pattimarie. Sure wish I was closer. Please be assured that I am thinking of you both very much!

Dang !!!
Our prayers and best wishes for a speedy and full recovery to my buddy John.   I also met him finally in person at the Johnsonville TN rally and he is a wonderful, friendly and funny guy in person, as well as on the'net.    I hope that PattiMarie hangs in there and doesn't suffer  bad memories from this.   They are good folks!

I was able to talk to John for a few minutes earlier, and other that a scratchy throat, and being obviously drugged up  [smiley=Norton.gif], he sounded not too bad. Said he was in the ER until 6:00 this morning before anyone would admit him, and had no rest last night at all. Of course, the 1st thing he wanted to ask about was his bike, and I told him to not worry about it for now, insurance will take care of all that.

He says he'll call back tomorrow, and may try to get on here to do some pecking, so we may hear a few words from the old boy Friday after all. Keep them in your thoughts.  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
