Hi all,

I've been lurkin for some time and now its time to come out of the shadows.

I've just returned to biking after a long lay off. In the 80's I always fancied a BM, but with R65 prices about £1000 more than a CX500 I couldnt afford one.

Fast forward to may of this year and I purchased a nicely restored R65LS.  I've since done about 1200 very enjoyable miles on it, mostly in Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and Yorkshire with Squires at Sherburn becoming a frequent stop.

Any tips on my R65 or biking in general would be appreciated. I've just found V2 sponges and also ear plugs, I wouldnt have dreamt of using ear plugs in my earlier days, but they do make a difference.

Good looking bike .

If this is your first BMW, there's a few personality quirks that go with them .

First is the charging system doesn't do much charging below 3500 rpm, so if you do a lot of slow, or 'city' type riding, battery charge issues may well develop, the red charge light comes on when the bike is at idle, so don't get concerned about it, unless it doesn't go out .

Noisy valves are another common trait, that seems to cause new owners a bit of concern, if properly set, they make a ticking sound .

The transmission makes a fair amount of noise  in neutral, with the engine running .

Really sharp LS. Have yet to see anything from GB that is less that #1 eye candy. Many of us envy the dual front discs.

I presume you know that you have a great parts supplier close by. Motobins are in Linconshire.

thanks for the fantastic welcome. Lou and those near me I hope to meet you soon.

The pics I posted earlier of my bike dont really do it justice, it is actually silver and not the white that it looks.

it shows up a bit better in this pic.

Had another good run out on sunday, about 150 miles in total, Scunthorpe, to Thorne, Goole, Wetwang, Tadcaster, Sherburn then back to Scunthorpe.

You not only have a very nice looking bike but it sounds like you have a lot of fine countryside to enjoy on it. [smiley=bmw_smiley.gif] I'd like to hear more about the bike's history and details like milage and if you don't mind what it cost you. My 1983 has a black exhaust system but your chrome system looks really sharp.
