Out of the closet with an R65LS
« on: April 26, 2009, 09:03:08 PM »
Hello airheads; I'm Peter and I need advil regularly.

I'm an airhead again.  Had an R100 Mystic, then an R1150RT and then a KGT.

Currently, I have a 2005 MV Agusta F4 Tamburini.  My body needed relief and my soul wanted an airhead.  So for about a month, I've been re-educating myself about airheads and searching availability.

Today, I bought a 1983 R65LS in good cosmetic and running condition with 32,000 miles.  Priced right there was NO question that it was coming home with me today.

Here are some pictures:

I've read most post for the last year and will need to decide what I want to do with this machine other than ride it.  For now, it will get a great detailing and a major service  and I'll seek out the exxpertise of you fine folks.

Regards, Peter

Hey Pete,

Are you really that bad a shot that it took all those pellets to punch a few 'oles in the black?

Peter,
Very nice LS! Looks to be in good nick with the only defects I could spot being the missing side covers a floppy front directional and pipes tho original look like there is some internal rusting going on at the swollen tips. You found a good classic that should be a lot of fun in the garage and on the road.

Peter welcome!! Your new LS looks really good. May have a new horn, looks like the the pulse air system is still mounted, I think different mirrors and the battery sidecovers are missing as stated above. All in all one good example...especially finding one with the black pipes if they are in good condition. You might want to ponder having the wheels powdercoated to snowy white which was the original colour in 1982 according to my brochures but subsequent problems with a paint crackline forming where the "spokes" met the rim, led BMW to offer the silver wheels as an option. BMW also offered a white tape to cover the crackline. It was cosmetic only. The silver wheels were OEM on the Polaris silver model...the only other colour choice for the LS model. Many, many R65LS's in the henna red came with silver wheels after 1982.
Any additional comments nhmaf??? Again, welcome!!
1983 R65LS - LRB still my favourite!? 1988 Honda NX250, "Toodles Too" and a Suzuki DR650, "Calypso." All stored in the "Brrrmmm Closet".
