Wow!! That's news!! My spouse and I grew up in Lynchburg. I didn't think that name would change in our lifetimes. Hammersley began selling cars there in the early 1950s as "Hammersley Nash," then morphed into other auto franchises (some of which, like Nash, are now extinct). Last I heard, "Kenneth Hammersley Motors" was a franchised dealer for BMW auto, Mercedes, and BMW Motorrad.
I've not had a chance to visit the dealership on a trip to Lynchburg. A friend who has his auto serviced at Hammersley told me that the bike "showroom" is a small area in the auto service department. I doubt that it's done from necessity, because the dealership is strategically located to be both convenient to Lynchburg riders and relatively convenient to Roanoke, ~50 miles away.
