Ya'll are fantastic!
« on: March 24, 2009, 12:43:56 PM »
I just wanted to say that the folks that populate this forum are just about the best anywhere.  Never have I seen such a depth of technical information with a willingness to share it.  Glad to say that I'm on here.

If you ever feel the need to be abused verbally, go over to Boxerworks, and make a posting on a controversial subject, like how the oilhead bikes are a far superior machine  compared to the airhead bikes. [smiley=beehive.gif]

The members here are pretty much an even tempered group.

The only recent posting that I can remember causing a little 'friction' among the membership, was about gun ownership.

A large number of the US members are gun owners.

No thanks, I get enough abuse at work!  Even the local BMW group tends to be a little...can I say "snooty", for want of another word.  If one doesn't ride a 1200 GS with all of the esoteric farkles then one isn't quite worthy.

The technical expertise on this site if amazing, and even though I've been riding beemers for decades have probably learned more in the past few months on this site than I ever knew before.

And, once I get the front turn signals installed my R65 will be ready for inspection and to hit the road.

Aw shucks....Not that I have added much.

Must pop over to Boxerworks and let them know that R65's are better than anything their riding.....Should be a good one. ;)

Even a lot of riders with larger airhead bikes, look down on the R65, as a lesser BMW !!

The few times that I went to an airhead tech-day, I got the feeling that I really wasn't welcomed there, with such an ordinary, non-farkled machine.

So, I've pretty much kept to myself regarding BMW motorcycles, wrenching, and riding.

Mike,  When I got both my R65's 'spected, the 'spector said that the scoots were too old to actually require turn sigs. Go figure.

I'm going for  the Texas Vintage Motorcycle registration and plates the next time the bikes come up for renewals. Tags valid for five years and NO inspections required!

Monte, I already decided to go the antique tag route, plus I'll probably get some kind of antique insurance.  As for the turn signals, they aren't required in Texas but if your bike has them then they do have to work.

Steve, don't hide your light under a bushel.  When I first saw your red cafe I just drooled.  (OK, at my age drooling comes naturally.)  But anyone who can have the vision to create a piece of functional art like that gets my vote.

Being and Airhead and an Oilhead owner, I wish to say there is room for both iterations of the venerable Bayerische Motoren Werken name!  (We'll even include the "Brick" and "Chain Gang"owners, what the heck!)   ;D
