Mac performance makes a 2 into 1 for 79-84 airheads. does anybody know if this will fit r65? I really would like to cafe out my 81/2 but don't want to spend big bucks and have to modify new material unless I have too.

Well, I *was* going to show you a link to the Mac headers&muffler system that I bought for my R65 (but haven't had time to try to install yet).
Unfortunately I clicked the link and the server crashed on a memory exception error (I guess M$soft .NET framework isn't as robust as they think it
is) and it doesn't want to even load the main page of that store's website now !

Oooops...

Nothing to see here folks, just keep moving on... :-X

Yo. The R65 is different. Lookie here:

http://www.macperformance.com/store/category.cfm?SID=3&Category_ID=951&Page=1

Shows header pipes for regular ol airheads and then header pipes for THE R65.

But upon further webbing, this MAC configuration may work:

http://www.macperformance.com/store/category.cfm?SID=3&Category_ID=951&Page=1

The picture on the above site does not show the full 2-into-1 exhaust on an R65. Looks like a kawasaki or something. But it says all years R65.

I have been checking the MAC site frequently for header pipes for my R80. Just waiting on my economic stimulus check!

Oh wait. NHMAF already got the exhaust setup from MAC. So is it a 2 into 1?

I checked out those sites. also sent e-mail to Mac customer service but no repley yetand no-one knows if the 2/1 fits r65. Life is hard when you have to make decisions with no info. Especially when the better half is the budget master and doesen't want to hear MC.

I once ran across a R65 with the 2 into 1 system.......some years back.... don't remember the brand.   I do remember it as being a little loud. That could be good or bad...... depends on what ya want.

If an exhaust product says it's for 197X-198X BMW then there is a 99.9999999...% probability that it does NOT fit an R65 as there is less distance between exhaust ports (narrower) on an R65 and the pipes are smaller in diameter.  Exhaust for an R65/45 is a completely unique product.  The only thing that might be able to be shared would be R100 mufflers if some sort of reducer sleeve is used

Moving to the tech section...

OK, I think that they fixed the web site -I've gotta check the box, but I think that
this:
http://www.cyclepages.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductID=4033017
Is the setup that I bought (that is a MAC exhaust 2-1 system) for my LS....

When I bought it, they only had/offered chrome headers (no black paint) and the mufflers
are also chrome.  IT also took a number of weeks (like 6-8) to arrive, but it did.
I've been too busy with other things to try putting it on yet, but I do plan to - it will likely require
some tweaking of the carbs (which I think I now have working so nicely) from the stock system setup.
