Log in problems
« on: February 24, 2009, 05:52:59 PM »
Justin

Something funny is going on since the upgrade. I can log in fine on one of my computers but on the other 3 that I may use 1 at work and 1 desktop and my laptop, when I log in on them I shows as guest but at the bottom LH shows me as a user online. Anyone else have this problem.

Rob, you might have something, there.  I am able to log in from multip[le machines but being an admin I can get away with more stuff...

There are about 4 people having this issue and I have posted the issue to the YaBB support forum.  The forum had one other instance that sounded like this but the admin said that it eventually just seemed to fix itself.

I really feel it is a cookie issue with something left over from the previous forum as the forum depends on cookies for the login to work clearly.

No reply on the Support Forum yet but I ran across another post that dealt with flaky login problems and the indicated some "web accelerators", such as Google Web Accelerator, can cause quirky login issues.  Firefox's  Fasterfox "Turbo Charged" and "Prefetching"setting was also pointed out as causing other login issues on other forums.

They also indicated flushing cache and "tossing your cookies"  [smiley=ROTFLMAO.gif] migtht clear it up.

Sorry, I just hadda say that!  ;D

I've noticed an interesting quirk with the login as well.  Opening a new browser session results in me not being logged in, but I get logged in automatically once I visit a thread -- as if it's not reading cached data until I visit a thread.

YaBB Support indicates this issue is either due to the user being logged in to different machine that have different IP address (software thinks somebody is trying to spoof an IP) or a cache/cookie issue.

I have asked if there is a way I can manually "log out" the affected users so they can start out with a clean slate.  I await a response...

Justin - I'm not having that problem - but I now have to click on a banner on the top asking if I want to allow pop ups from this site - is this correct? It didn't do that yesterday.

I also had a jpg deleted sometime between yesterday and today (on the post about those who maybe afraid about falling off). I've reattached.

And...I've managed to donate now, but I'm not sure if it is just me - but it seems a rather convaluted process and after I donated, it wouldn't let me straight back to the site nor actually log out from paypal....I had to close paypal window - without the benefit of it saying 'logout' and then re-enter the addy of this forum.....

And.....this doesn't happen all the time - but it occurs enough to be a pain. When I click on another topic it comes up with the old saying 'Can't find the server'. When I go back out and then try again, it invariably lets me in. (Maybe you have done this deliberately to restrict my ramblings?)

And...I can't modify a post after awhile (read: after someone has replied) - just doesn't have the button to allow me to do this.

Justin - I'm not having that problem - but I now have to click on a banner on the top asking if I want to allow pop ups from this site - is this correct? It didn't do that yesterday. This is on your system, your browser or other software is asking about blocking popups.  You need to change the settings.

And...I've managed to donate now, but I'm not sure if it is just me - but it seems a rather convaluted process and after I donated, it wouldn't let me straight back to the site nor actually log out from paypal....I had to close paypal window - without the benefit of it saying 'logout' and then re-enter the addy of this forum.....Unfortunately we have no control over that, the button transfers control to PayPal.  I would think, though, that there should be a button at the top of the page to log out.  I guess I'll have to donate a buck to see exactly how it is working...

And.....this doesn't happen all the time - but it occurs enough to be a pain. When I click on another topic it comes up with the old saying 'Can't find the server'. When I go back out and then try again, it invariably lets me in. (Maybe you have done this deliberately to restrict my ramblings?) If the server is very busy, and doesn't respond within a certain time limit, this message will display.  I have also set a 20 second "delay" between post functions.  This is another spammer defense as well.

And...I can't modify a post after awhile (read: after someone has replied) - just doesn't have the button to allow me to do this.  There is a time limit on when you can modify a post, it is currently set at 1 day.  I suppose this is to keep somebody from going back, modifying a post, and claiming, "What?  I never said that..."
