Greetings,

I'm new to this board.  I found it after I purchased my new to me 1982 R65 with only 3200 miles (no typo) a few weeks ago.  The information on this board has been very helpful so far and I'm sure I will have questions to ask sometime in the near future.  For example, I still haven't gotten over having to add zip ties to the side covers to keep them from falling off and I'm still trying to figure out an inexpensive source to purchase a stock size battery to replace the oversized one that came with it?

About me, I own several motorcycles including BMW's and I'm a MSF Rider Coach.  That's it for now and I will try to post a photo this evening.

Regards
Ed

Ed,

I'm in the market for an R65...similar to yours i've seen one with just under 4000 miles in great condition.  Currently in the process of deciphering an offer to propose to the current owner. Can anyone help me out with what i should expect to pay for the '79 R65? can I ask how much you picked up yours for?

Beside the speedo they have an ed-counter that increases with group rides.

The jokes are starting to get pretty lame now it appears. :P

Thank you all for the welcome and the funny and interesting Ed remarks.  Ed-counter??  I haven't posted photos yet do in part because I haven't figured it out yet and I have been busy trying to get the bike on the road.  I have never posted a photo to a forum before and I thought it would be as easy as uploading it from my digital camera.  However, all of my attempts have failed to date.  Oh well, the snow will be here soon so I need to spend more time riding and less time writing!

NSPARCH,
I paid around 2K which may be considered a good bargain.  But, I must replace the loud after market two into one exhaust with the used stock system that just arrived from Re-Pyscle.  By the time I put the new tires on, replace the carb float etc.  The $ involved has increased but I think it's still worth it.

My God, Ed, How far up the UP are you located to be worried about snow now? (another four letter swear word that is seldom heard in my current vicinity)

 ;D

Of course, I remember going "Trick or Treating" in a snowsuit as a child in upstate New York.  But that was many years before "Global Warming".

We've had snow in the mountains here in NH already this month, though that has been at the 4000 foot elevation level and above .

Since this thread has degraded to the weather and snow already, I might as well continue with it.   ;)

It snowed in Reno on Friday, so that means it snowed in Tahoe and along I80 up along Donner Pass too.  Yep, it's finally really Fall and winter's acomin'.  It's been cool and windy the last few days, and tonight it actually feels like my heater might come on.  (Good thing I got that gas leak fixed already so I can have the pilot on.)

So, I can imagine someone farther up north would want to get as much riding in as possible now as there is only a bit of time left until the cold really sets in.

By the way, Welcome Ed!   8-)

Welcome Ed - from another newbie, but on the other (top side) of the world. People here seem to be pretty friendly - at least they don't bite  ;). Safe and fun riding.

We get snow every year here in Darwin.

At Christmas time the local Mobil Service station goes out and spray paints his front  grass with white paint.
doesn't melt even though overnight temps drop to 28 deg c. (82.5 deg F) ;D
