Felt strips inside front fork dust cap?

Can you replace the felt strips in your front fork dust protector caps without having to take them off?and how easy/hard is it to put the new ones in?i was thinking of replacing mine with some strips of noeprene that i have,and wonder if this would work well?anyone have any thoughts on this idea.

Not possible to replace the "felts" without removing the rubber cap from the lower fork slider.

The felt strips arrive flat. In other words, they are not yet circular in shape. They have a bevel cut on each end of the heavy felt material. For installation, I found it helpful to press the material straight down into the rubber cap's groove as attempts to pull 'push' only elongated the felt.

Do not be tempted to cut the material to a shorter length; properly installed, the bevel cuts match up perfectly.

Neoprene might work. May not. You'd get to be the test mule on this idea. Report back with results.

It is also recommended to moisten the new felts with a bit of the suspension oil that you put in the forks.  Just a a few
drops on your finger will do - helps them to adjust to their new home and stay there.

Forgot to mention this little tip. I did it, too.
