It's alive!
« on: June 07, 2008, 12:43:08 PM »
Just got back from a neighborhood ride. First time the bike's been outta the shop in a few weeks.

Latest project was replacing the rear wheel bearings - one had seen to many trips to the car wash...really rusted bearings and pitted outside race. Anyway, went through the tapered bearing preload ritual, crossed my fingers and... Wow! I'm a better rider than I thought the bike was. Neat! Now much better at low speed maneuvering.

The R65 Wire Reduction Program continues. Installed Rick Jones/Motorrad Elektrik GEN lamp resistor by-pass surgery thing and proceeded to snip, snip, snip. Biggest chore, due to work space limitations, is re-wrapping the wire harness. So it goes...

Saw my over-the-fence neighbor as I rode around the block. Last I knew, he was a Harley rider. No more. Has a shiny oilhead, what... 1150?... GS sitting in his garage. Says it's too heavy to run errands on so it sits unless he goes to breakfast with a DFW area BMW group. And that's why we ride our "R" models. HUA!

Enjoying a celebratory adult malt beverage right now. Maybe two. Then it's time to take the fuel tank off, again, and continue with the wire rehab.

BTW... The Dyna coil is magic. Mike's XS HT lead and cap kit is way cool. NGK plugs rock. Bike idles and runs like a Singer sewing machine. I'm feeling...
