LED Lighting On Rear Of Bike
« on: June 09, 2008, 08:44:14 PM »
I installed a Beacon 2 LED tail/stop light , Stopper 25 LED stop light bar , that mounts to the 2 lower license plate bolts, and a set 2 of Electro-Pods 8 LED, that flash when the brake is applied, purchased from Motorrad Elektrik, plus 3 LED reflectors/marker lights for the 3 stock red reflectors on the rear fender.

I must say that I am quite pleased with the results of the installation.

Got to use it on the way to work on Sunday morning, a car was following not much more than 10 feet behind me, on an empty urban expressway at 5:20 am.

I pushed on the rear brake pedal, I've got the rear brake adjusted, so I have about 1 inch of travel before the rear brake is activated, but the brake light comes on as soon as the pedal is depressed.

The car behind me backed off to about 100 feet after that.

So I guess I have the desired effect of grabbing a drivers attention.

I am really enjoying my new sense of communication with my Hyperlites (flash when the brakes are applied).

I use them on the interstate, when I see folks coming up fast; or any place I am stopped, watching my rear view mirrors.

Never got around to getting a digital camera, let alone how to post a picture !!!

If you ever get around to upgrading the lighting on the rear of your bike, I would  consider the LED replacements available today.

I've heard that some of the LED replacement 'bulbs' that just take the place of the standard incandescent ones, are not quite up to the task just yet.

Gee Rob, for a second there I thought that you had traded your R65 for a new Kawasaki from that photo !
I've seen these on some bike around here - I don't think that they are illegal to use in our "Live Free or Die"
state, though I gotta wonder what might happen if the person behind you happens to suffer from severe epilepsy...

1) It is a Honda, not a Kawasaki. (;))

2) While the lady performing my EEG several years ago said that I did react to the strobe light portion of the test,
in 30+ years of being epileptic, I have yet to have one trigger a seizure.
The ones in store-fronts really bug me, though.
And I was behind a utility truck the other day that had flashing LED's incorporated into the brake lights.
I didn't care for them.  I also didn't hit the truck!

Suraklyn has one of the Gizmo-Mill rear lights on his 1200 ST and it really gets your attention.  I tried coming up with a site but several other forums I checked have discussions that indicate they may no longer exist.  Too bad...

Bob, you are going to have to quit the "luddite" (sp?) routine and break down and get a digital camera.

Love the Hyper Lights.  I also have a Kisan flasher for the main brake light bulb (I had to file down the the board to get it to fit.) and the Givi Top Case has brake lights built in.  Then there is the relective tape.... :o

I agree, Rob, if he can figger out an oilhead he oughta be able to handle a camera!  Hell, I don't even think you can buy a phone anymore that doesn't have a camera built in - unless he's still using one of those old hand-crank jobbers!  ;D

Bob,
I've always been impressed with your up front lighting and plan to follow suit with at least a couple of your new rear light upgrades. I'm wanting to know where you mounted the Electro Pods? Was the installation of them straight froward?

Rich,

The kit comes with two faced tape, and I secured the two 'modules' to the rear part of the plastic storage compartment above the tail light assembly.

I don't even have a cell phone !!!!

I use my telephone at home at best 4-5 times a month.

Havn't been able to access the R65.org site since Tuesday morning, after we had some sort of problem on the site.

My internet service provider says that it is not a problem with my computer, or service, there is some sort of problem in my general area.
