Any chance the flag may make it to Des Moines Iowa this summer (winter in Aus) for MOA national rally

Yep for sure Mrclubike, I've been holding onto the flag in the hope they'll finish doing roadworks outside the tunnel entrance so I could get a photo riding by with the flag, but it's still a worksite and I've been holding onto the flag for too long, sorry!

Where shall I send the flag to next?

Cheers,
Dan

Shall I send the R65 flag to you Mrclubike?
Unless someone who wants to sign it in the Southern Hemisphere pipes up I think it'd be best for it to head north.

Hey Dan, we have a few months before the rally that Mrclubike spoke of.  Middle of July.  Hopefully they will finish work on the tunnel before then?

Hey guys, look what I just found.
I'm not sure where it came from, but I was cleaning up my old Photobucket account, and there it was. Sue on the left, SCJJ John on the right, and I'm not sure about the 2 guys in the middle. It's tagged R65 group '09, which was after Aida created the flag and some of us met and signed it in '08. No clue where this was taken, or by whom!

Hmm, I'm not sure if that's Semper, aka Bill Gould, or not. He's a tall guy, but lanky, and this fellow looks a little heavier; when I bumped into Semper at a Moto Guzzi rally 2-3 years ago he looked about the same as in '08.
Btw, I think I've managed to restore most of my original photos at the beginning of this thread. Still looking for ways to defeat the evildoers at Photobucket.
Here's the 1st pic that started all this, with Semper being the tall guy in the red hat. We were all mere children!

Okay, the mystery has been solved, by our very own Ms Buck (Aida). She writes on Facebook,
"2009 BMW MOA National Rally in Johnson City, TN
A few of the R65ers gathered in Johnson City including (left to right) SueCanada (Sue), nhmaf (Mike), R65Guy (Neil), and SCJJR65 (John)."

Hi MrClubike and Rob,
The works outside the tunnel continue and I'd better get the awesome flag away so you guys can enjoy it.  Give me an address or PM me and I'll get it on it's way so it'll make the MOA rally.  I've got a mate from NZ in Des Moines, I'm yet to make it there to visit, sounds like a nice place.
Nice historical pics NC Steve, a lot more signs on it now!
Cheers,
Dan

Gee I am in an historical pic!! Guess that makes sense....sigh...
I have signed up for Des Moines but worry a bit about getting there. LRB not on the road yet...I want to replace the 0-ring under the M/C front brake reservoir and maybe while I am trying to figure how to do that right, I could ask about replacing the piston assembly there on that brake while I am at the first job? I am sketchy about doing the latter. I have asked Monte to help out with instructions so I await his answer. I am tempted to try riding the 1988 new-to-me Honda NX250 out to Des Moines given time to go slower. I just like less weight nowadays. But LRB (R75LS with white wheels!!) deserves to go... LRB hasn't run for 1.5 years but he has been well stored I think but I bet he has something in store for me to have to fix....sitting is NOT his best suit. He may surprise me and take pity on my fragile stress levels though. He is the sensitive type, you know.
1983 R65LS - LRB still my favourite!? 1988 Honda NX250, "Toodles Too" and a Suzuki DR650, "Calypso." All stored in the "Brrrmmm Closet".

Sue, Monte doesn't seem to hang out here anymore since we had some very irritating forum issues that finally turned out to be host related.  But, on a lighter note there are plenty of other wrenches here that can help out.

Hi guys, I'd better get this flag on it's way from the depths of a getting colder south hemisphere so it makes it to Des Moines in time.  Who wants to take it?  I believe Rob and MrClubike were the last to mention it going to the MOA rally, Sue.  PM me an address someone and I'll send it on to it's next adventure.

Hi Sue, it's not too hard a job to replace the m/c piston for the first time. You'll need to buy a m/c overhaul kit, the same size as the diameter of the piston, stamped into the underneath of the cast m/c. body. Good job you mention the reservoir o ring, annoyingly they don't come with the overhaul kit so get a couple o rings while you're ordering.
Syringe the brake fluid from the reservoir, put a small hose over the caliper bleed nipple into a jar, loosen the caliper bleed nipple and let the fluid flow out, loosening the brake hose nut at the m/c. Let a bit out while taking the brake handle lever off at the pivot then disconnect the hose and take off the m/c.
To remove the m/c dust boot, there is either a circlip or washer to remove first, my memory fails me sorry. Once the circlip is removed all the parts come out straight forward, there aren't many, just keep them in order.
I reused my original return spring as it was firmer than the rebuild kit spring.
Any corrosion needs to be washed out.  Coat the new piston rubbers, o ring and m/c inside barrel in brake fluid before reassembly and remember to firstly put a thick cloth over your tank and guard to protect from fluid drips (beer or brake)  :)
Here's a schematic of the handle bar m/c assembly:

Hey! Great photo of the Johnson City gang. Delbert McClinton playing in the background as I remember.  I will be at the Des Moines rally.  We need to get together for a toast and flag signing ceremony. I can take the flag if no one else has spoken for it yet.  I have 2 years listed on it, time to add a 3rd.  Sue and I toasted the club at the Salem, OR rally :D
