LED SHOP LIGHT

I have changed from an incandescent shop light to an LED. No more broken bulbs or burnt hands on the reflector are the good things...... however............>

The LED light does not seem to diffuse or reflect or bounce off anything. It's bright where you point it but nothing but BLACK where it is not. My old 100 watt bulb seemed to light more area even if not as bright. I looked on the web and didn't find anything. The incandescent would reflect off of things and toss some light behind things and on its sides, but the LED will not.

Am I just imagining these issues? Once it emits off a source seems like light is light and should act the same. I can't make a side by side comparison as my last 100 watter died and here in the Peoples Republic of California, we cannot purchase a real light bulb any longer

I use Phillips LED bulbs in all of the fixtures in the house and they put out very good usable light.  In the shop I converted most of the 48" shop lights to LED and have noticed a slight decrease in light level unless you are directly underneath the light.

When I do the lights again in my garage I will use 600 mm square flat panel LEDs. They are designed to drop into false ceiling grids but can also be surface mounted in a slim frame.  We have them in the workshop at work and the light level is excellent with a 40W panel producing 3000 lumens.
