Indoctrinating the next generation

Well its a sunny Saturday in the Lakes and after a week of hard use and many miles my R1200 needed a good scrub and clean. Anyway since I was doing the 12 I decided to give the Bimbo a wash and brush up as well even though she's only done about 30 dry miles in the last week.

So there I am, a bit of Alex Harvey and the Macc Lads on the shed Ghetto Blaster, washing, polishing and generally providing TLC to my ladies when I notice out of the corner of my eye a head peeking over the fence from the holiday cottage next door.

The lad was about 8 years old and he had that look of delight in his eyes as he said. "Err Mister what's that?"
Now I'm a teacher and am used to chatting with kids (admittedly the ones I teach are a good few years older) and can tell when you have their complete attention.

By now dad had noticed his child looking over the fence and came for a look, and five minutes later said little boy was sat on the back on the Bimbo with one of those. 'When I grow up I'm having one of these' looks on his face.

Anyway I've just seen him and dad walking back from the village shop with a toy motorcycle and big grin on his face.

Perhaps there is hope for the future after all.

A good buddy of mine here in Jersey has been an avid Brit Iron collector for decades. Nortons, Triumphs, Velocettes, BSA's from the 50's and 60's. He was blessed with 2 beautiful daughters. Daughter #1 grew up, got married, bought a house, had a kid, and settled right down into married life.  Daughter #2 however, became more of a free spirit. I received a photo last week documenting her first ride on a mostly restored BSA 441.
There is hope for the next generation.
