Winter - Are we mad?
« on: January 18, 2015, 11:20:09 AM »
Winter >:( I bloody hate winter. I've spent this one shivering my arse off in my shed rebuilding my R65ls back to as close to factory condition I get her with out turning her into an overly restored 'display' model.

So my question to you all is are we all mad? My wife thinks I am. After all I have a wonderful piece of 21st C Bavarian technology to ride, so why am I so fixated on getting my old Beemer back on the road....

Tony I was up your way on Tuesday visiting relatives, stayed over in Cockermouth  had a good night out starting at the Bitterend working through the excellent pubs back to the taxi rank plenty of snow in the Western Lakes but the roads were ok.

We are expecting -5 tonight and I have taken some beer out of the garage and put it in the fridge to warm up... I don't mind the cold but when you add wind and snow to it I hide

We've had a few days of -25C to -30C here - that is even too cold to be working in the garage.   But, working on bikes is one of the things we can do during the winter here, while waiting for the ice to melt

Not mad but slightly twisted  ;D

After twenty minutes in the garden yesterday, I was bathed in sweat due to the humidity.  So, time for a swim and it was beautiful.   :)

On a slightly different note, I caught up with my folks over the festive season and my Dad let it slip that he used to ride my brand new R65 to work when I was away.  He described it in one word - FUN.

I am currently shivering through a Bangkok winter. Yesterday struggled to reach 32 degs but we are promised a thaw next week.

OK, it is 32 C, not F.

The local policeman parked his Beemer next to my restaurant table before riding into the night with no helmet or lights. Next week I will meet up with a group of expat riders in Chiang Mai so will ask ask if there are any local boxers.

Not mad, slightly twisted! I'll tell that to the wife tonight when she gives me that 'your bonkers' look as I retire to the chilly 'man haven' of my shed for an argument with a wiring loom. :)

Winter's generally when I ride my R65, though until I get the Triumph painted and back together I'll have to keep putting up with the R65 in the summer.  Windjammer in winter = good, but not in the summer.

I haven't ridden the bike for 10 days. There's been too much snow and salt about. Heavy rain overnight which should wash the worst of the salt away and dry tomorrow with min 5 Deg C so I'm off to work on the bike. Be nice if that was the extent of the  winter lay off but I expect there's more snow to come.
