R65 Sidecar?
« on: June 13, 2013, 12:12:01 PM »
Am I dreaming (could happen, at my age) or do I recall one of our forum regulars-- also a Texas resident-- being a sidecarist?  I contacted one of our State's Boxer experts about building a rig around my R65, and he told me to sell it and buy a specific, bigger displacement rig... I'm hoping that his bias was only because of my BMW being yellow, which always seemed to irk him)...

You are thinking of "scottyintex" - and yes, he did have an R65 sidecar rig, though I believe he traded it for an R90/6 based rig.    An R65 rig will work OK, provided that you used a lighter sidecar, like a Velorex, Texas Ranger, or maybe a Cozy (though the Cozy needs structural improvements) and kept in mind that you'll likely be limited to around 65-70MPH top speed with it - better for secondary roads, etc than superslabs.

After I get my R100/7 road worthy again I am going to resume my project of attaching a Sputnik sidecar to it using the Dauntless Motors (DMC) subframe kits, and will keep my R65LS as the 2-wheeled Sunday rider.

That would be scottyintex, who has a beautiful R65 rig.
There are pics in here somewhere, back a ways I believe.

All R65s aside, it's one of the finest sidecar rigs I've ever seen. 8-)

Scotty sold the R65 rig. I met him at Perry's in Fort Worth during June of 2011 when he worked the deal on his new, bigger n' better rig.

Scotty off-loading his R65 side car rig. He was having issues with the car's chassis fracturing.

Many wonderful bikes stashed all through the multiple buildings at Perry's.
