Ross, what are those tires?  Brand/model and size?

And the headlights, for that matter....

That looks like a fun bike to ride.

The light unit I knocked up myself.

The speedo works off the same priciples as a push bike speedo.  You have to measure the circumference of the front wheel and enter it in the speedo.  A magnet is mounted on the wheel and a sensor on the fork.  The speedo just counts rotations of the wheel and multiplies by the wheel circumference to get distance and then by time to get speed, etc, or summat like that.

I take it this is your first 'special' and you are new to BMW airheads.  I am gonna have to take you under my wing..........

Cheers

Hello Ed, I'll get the tyre info for you this evening and get it posted.

Steve it is indeed my first, up until now I've mostly been limited to fixing bits that went wrong on previous bikes, the odd bit of wiring here and there, broken rectifiers, general services etc. All help and advice will be gladly received, last thing I want to do is wreck a bike that has survived this long.

I'm starting to think a digital speedo might be the way to go at least for the time being, the bike is MOT'ed and ridable but the lack of speedo is an issue.

I got in touch with the lady at Cobra Leathers, going to bob the bike round and get her to take a look at a seat. Think i'm going to need to remove or modify the rear mud guard to accommodate the longer seat. I'm thinking maybe chop it into a small fender just coming off the back of the seating frame? Thoughts?

Hi Ross, welcome to the forum from another newbie  :) There are quite a few UK members on here, and IMHO this is the best BMW forum about - very friendly and knowledgeable.

I'll be watching your project with interest, you and the Rev are giving me bad ideas damn you lol.

Been round to visit Ross this lunch time (in my dinner break) for a cuppa tea....

Took at look at his 'Precious'.  He took a look at mine...Ooer!

Imparted some pearls of wisdom - you lot would be proud!

Not everything the previous owner has done passes muster,  but Ross has a plan and wants to put his mark on it...And it is a good start.

Here is a picture (of the bikes)

Welcome Ross.  I think I might have to move to Swindon - looks like a lot of R65 action going on!

It was good to see Steve yesterday, gave me some solid pointers and helped me re-focus. Looking forward to some ride outs soon.

AJB I used to live up Brum way, I do prefer being further south.

When you put her back together, pop round and we can discuss the list you are going to be making.

Which things to tackle first and the things that are going to take a bit more time and a little bit more thought....

We can check your charging system as well.

I will put the kettle on.

Cheers
