R65 line drawings?
« on: April 18, 2013, 06:27:21 AM »
I'm pondering over the colour scheme to use on my R65 once I've finalised the dry build. I've tried 'colouring in' black & white photos from the web, but its been a bit of a waste of time lol. Does anyone have some crisp line drawings of an airhead that I can use to test out some options? It doesn't have to be a R65 - I just want to get a general idea of what different colour combos will look like.

Thanks :)

Not a line drawing but personally I think this colour scheme is "the dogs"

I like the style of that bike Mike, not sure about the colour though if I'm honest. A bit desert sand to me?

Thanks for the colour charts Barry. I'm thinking of doing something different, I had thought of the classic colours but I want something a bit different without going for a full custom jobbie. It'll have pinstripes though if I can get it sorted out. I've got loads of ideas flying around but I want to see what the bike will look like painted in those colours... I guess I'll have to persevere with photoshop!

Thanks again :)

Yes, colour is very much personal taste, I think it was since I saw an R100 one day in the flesh with a cream paint job that I became hooked on it.

You probably saw this jpeg already:

If you download an open source tool called inkscape (does everything photoshop does) and import it you may be able to do something by playing with different formats, though more likely it will drive you crazy as you try to figure out how to use it!

Brilliant, thanks Mike, just what I was after  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

BTW Barry, I had considered using a colour very similar to the Burnt Orange - my Land Rover is very close to this colour and I'd thought about matching the bike to it  :) Its actually a lot more orange than it looks below (the colour is called kinversand)

Volkswagen did a similar colour on the Mk 4 Golf back in 99 called Tropic Orange - I know 'cause I had one!
I've found a picture of one on Google and uploaded it to an album in the photo gallery, but I'm struggling to post or link to it here.
The URL is:

Sam
Are you a member of the DOC??
I used to be, had a 2003 disco 2. I lifted 2" but kept the air bags and fitted a defender transfer box, with the defender diff lock and the disco slip diff it was like an air locker all round.
I was amazed at what it could do, but i sold it as it wasn't a defender!!!

I was, a few years ago, but I left them after some unpleasantness.

I've been with my local club for a few years now and am the web chappie for them - http://www.ddlrc.co.uk I'm not a web designer by any means, but got the job after they paid several £100s for a website that was unusable. I'll be trying to spruce it up a bit soon - need to add an online calendar, shop etc etc. At the moment all that stuff is on our facebook page  ::)

I'm in the process of looking for a series 2 or 3.
Toying with the idea of trying to get a td5 to fit in keeping the original looks!!

Might be a big waste thought!!

I had to sell my S2 88 a few years ago - a 1961 full on project. It'd been stood around for a few years on the drive, I'd spent £1000s on parts incl a new galvy chassis but ran out of money, had no time, and it was just getting me down seeing it taunting me so I ended up selling it all  :'(

Mechanically it was fine (amazingly!) It'd been a trials vehicle so the body was totally shot - where it had been damaged, the PO had riveted in a replacement section... but he'd been pretty keen on the oily bits. I'd bought a nice S3 88 to donate the body (it had a broken back), and at one point I was going to restore that instead, but as I said, it all ended up being sold off.

The S2 has been rebuilt by a chap in Leeds now, and it running a 300Tdi on veggie oil. I doubt a Td5 engine would fit to be honest - its an enormous lump, IMHO a good 300Tdi is the best option.
