During my 'research' phase before I bought my R65 I scoured the web for as much info as I could find - so I have a few digital copies of old magazine reviews of the R65. I was wondering if you'd like me to post them up here?

Not sure how it stands re copyright etc given that most of them are very old articles... but I figured they might make interesting reading ?

There have been test reports posted here before on the R65, I don't think it is an infringement of copyrighted material .

I have never seen the LS test before. I thought the R65 would be up against it with those 3 Italians but it held it's end up well.

Note the modest rear tire sizes on those fast and or heavy Italian bikes.

Its interesting that the weights quoted on the 1981 LS and the 1979 R65 are very similar - if they are to be believed.

1979 R65 - Curb weight (full tank) 205.4 (453lb)
R65 LS - 451lb (204.6 kg).

Of course the BMW quoted dry weight in the brochure at the end is meaningless as we do not have an equivelent for the 1979 bike. How much does a full tank of gas weigh anyone? And does dry mean dry? No oil. etc?

This is, of course, not quite right, one assumes. Unless the LS has some extra's not found on the 1979 (extra disk and caliper?). But could that negate, the lighter starter motor, flywheel and nikasil bores?

Thank you so much for posting these. I have never red lined my bike and I read a couple of time in these that there is a light that comes on if you do. Is that just a 1979 thing or is that true on all our bikes? Maybe I will have to try it out.

Well, I can tell you there's no such light on the '86. Not even if you bounce the needle.

The light was only avaliable on some early 1978/9 examples and was very quickly dropped.

Its not on my 1979 bike.

This is where my sign off comes from, because I did not know about it and called into question someone who did....

Well, I don't wonder so much as think it's damned inconvenient! Head's been in the shop for two or three weeks now.. can't remember.

I did get some "Permatex 81343 Anti-Seize Lubricant, 1 oz. Tube" and "Permatex 82180 Ultra Black Maximum Oil Resistance RTV Silicone Gasket Maker, 3.35 oz. Tube" from the nice delivery guy yesterday.
