Sorry but this is ugly

I know everyone has there own taste in customizing their bike but in my eyes this is about the ugliest airhead custom I have ever seen.

Keep your bike in good repair: motorcycle boots are not comfortable for walking.

Hmmm.   Not my cup of tea either - but "LEatherback Turtle" does seem to be a reasonable description of it-LOL!

Well, underneath there is still a nice /5 - if he is like any of the other Spaniards I know he'll have converted it into something else in a year or two.

it's on...

Cycle World magazine, in my opinion, wasted six pages in the February 2013 issue publishing Gary Inman's journalistic junk by showcasing a buncha hacked up crap from this Euro artiste.

Not only is there multiple images of that bizzare R75, but several other bikes have also been butchered: A BMW 450 Boxer -gotta be an R45. Sorry, Barry. ,'80s-something Yamaha 250, '83 Guzzi 650, '59 Harley Panhead, '69 Triumph T120, Ducati 450, plus a trio of Honda 125s that the "artist" is offering to sell at 8000 Euros each. That's around $10,500.00 US bucks. Puleeeze...

Here's the worst part. This guy is planning to bring his store, studio and workshop to the US East Coast within three years, sez he. Won't somebody please call the INS? Let's try and save some classic motorcycles.

rant mode off...

Ugly it is. Just a bunch of different parts with no design continuity.

Now photographs always flatter but some parts on this bike already look a bit rough in the pictures so I suspect the standard of finish in reality is on par with the rusty sprocket that for some reason was considered the best thing for adjusting the steering damper.

Aw, you guys are a tough bunch! All it really needs is one of those /2 single seats - you know, the rubber tractor seat?

But you're right - the guy's way out in left field!

the whole point of cafe racers is to make your bike into a racer ok? (the clues in the name) . why hack up a good bike to make this , i can see cafe racers as a design exercise too, but i've built them when xs650s , z1000s , cb 750s were considered sports bikes! and we did it to make them steer and go a bit quicker. keep a good rugged flat twin as its designed to be , comfy and usable. if you want insane speed and handling there are hundreds of used jap sportsbikes out there cheap! but i think theres more to biking than that. :)

In my book a Cafe Racer is for the road and ultimate performance is secondary - but it has to go better than it did as standard and it has to look the part.  But it still has to be able to be used on the road and it still should be comfortable enought to cover some distance - i.e. be able to empty the tank getting there and the same getting back (200 miles each way)

A race bike is for the track - ultimate performance is everthing. Comfort is secondary, as are all other considerations.

So how do you know when you have gone too far with your Cafe Racer?  When you would rather ride your standard bike........: )

Cheers

200 miles with clip ones? in one hit? theres nothing worse than being on a cafe racer and being 'blown off' by say a honda cb500 !

As long as you can keep a reasonable speed up (50mph), to get the weight off your wrists, there should be no issue.
Or at least there was no issue for me.

Its, when you can't keep that speed up, there will be a problem.  Now that all villages have an obligatory 30mph zone and that the same villages are now all blending into one another that there is a problem.  Add to that, when the safety police visit your favourite road and lower the speed limit to 40mph becuase some impatiant a*sehole has been overtaking on a blind bend, etc, etc...

How fast do you want your Cafe Racer to be?  We are on public roads, and the R65 can achieve a speed that will lose you tour licence in one go i.e. 100mph.

It's probably fair to say that up to a point airheads were designed for speed as the standard Euro bars put some weight on the wrists.  US bars are more comfortable but they were a marketing mod and not really what the designer intended.  Did they sell the R65LS with high bars ? if they did it seems a contradiction in terms of the styling.

50 mph doesnt keep any weight off your wrists! ive gone from cleethorpes to sheffield in 40 minutes in my sportsbike days and still been in agony ! mind you we maxed out the m180 to doncaster . been chased by the plod on a number of occasions and only kept my licence due to having my own bike shop. cafe racers were built by misinformed youths to race from cafe  to cafe  (get it?) . i realise that due to speed restrictions , age! (lol) its impossible to enjoy an out and sportsbike anymore . track days are no go , too rigidly enforced , following an instructor then a couple of laps on yer own . crap. cafe racers are just for old guys posing with their scooter buddies ! enemies to me years ago! mind you i still enjoy outcornering sportsbike riders on my harley, well i did ! had to sell , no storage! :(
