Watch out for deer
« on: October 27, 2012, 02:37:01 PM »
Who among us has never been reminded to watch out for deer crossing our favorite twisties? From the Texas Hill Country to the Piney Woods of East Texas, good-intentioned people remind me and other motorcyclists to stay alert.

This news article could be a solution. Ya think?

The only thing that will help solve the deer population, is significant 'thinning' of the herd .

My brother lives in a far western suburb of Boston, pretty much a rural area, quite common to hear of 10-15 deer/ vehicle incidents every week in the area .

The number goes up during the fall season .

And guess what, the area is a no hunting region, imagine that, no native predators to keep their numbers in check either .

In most cases, the driver is charged with illegal hunting and fined .

Not a lot better in some areas of Aridzona, there are areas where it is 'open range', meaning cattle roam freely without fences to contain them . :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

My problem is that I never see anything legal to shoot when I have my rifle or pistol with me.   I gotta get out and do more bow hunting soon.

I've hit a deer with my previous truck, and one time I came very close to mutual destruction with a whole herd of deer on my Kawasaki Concours on a dark and rainy night.   I avoided disaster that night with a little skill and a lotta luck!

The link wouldn't work for me and I had to find it on my own. Did everyone else get to see it?

That was pretty hillarious, Monte! I've heard of someone else voicing that view before and it really cracks me up. It sounds like she was serious too. I like her suggestion of routing the deer to cross in school zones.  ;D

Excellent solution - now lets see - how will we teach them to recognize the sign, much less obey it??

I agree with Rob - we all need to put more venison on the table to get this situation in check! But how do we do it without the King's Sheriff coming down on us? Maybe need to take a lesson from Robin Hood.

Yes, I had to remove the backslash. When I did find it, I found it strange and hard to believe for obvious reasons.  Maybe too obvious.

We had a woman up north complaining (in a very similar fashion) about a "Moose Crossing" sign as well.   She was also wondering how much state tax payer money had gone into researching the moose crossing, because it said " Moose Crossing Next 5000 feet" instead of the usual "Moose Crossing Next 1 Mile"..

Since moose has been mentioned, for those planning to tour the Great White North, and you decide to ride through New Brunswick, here's a map you may find useful: http://www.gnb.ca/0113/moose/M-V-CollisionMap-e.asp

I couldn't get to the site with that link either, but I had already heard that one plus the update one where she realizes what she had done.   ::)   Unbelievable.  I don't know how the radio host was able to keep his cool.  I would have been laughing my head off!!   [smiley=ROTFLMAO.gif]
