Exchange rate
« on: August 07, 2012, 09:47:29 PM »
I just installed a new stainless steel set of exhaust pipes I got from Motobins in England.  They look good, fit perfectly, and were only $399 shipped to my house.  My old ones hadn't actually rusted through yet, but all of the chrome was gone.

Now I'll know that under the layers of winter mud and oil, that my exhaust pipes look good.

Post up some pics and part # info!!!  While not the basic black OEM pipes for the R65LS - I may have to consider a more shiny alternative for next year...

They're probably Keihan. Made in England. They also make the LS style mufflers, but don't always have them in stock, in which case you might have to wait six months till they produce another batch.

http://www.motobins.co.uk/bmw-parts.php?model=R%20Series%202%20valve%20Twin

is the link to their catalog of exhaust pipes.  Mine are the dual cross over R65 pipes.  Yeah I think they are Keihan.  I was hoping somebody would know how to spell it!

I'll try to get pictures, before I get them all dirty.  I only ran them long enough to let most of the excess antiseize melt out so I could wipe it up before it stained the pipes.

Also:  Mothers Back to Black worked great to freshen up my faded, gray saddle bags.  They will also be in the pictures.

Pics:

I took a close up of a weld.  The welds weren't polished out, and I don't blame them.

I didn't take a picture of the old pipes, but they looked like normal except for the nearly complete lack of chrome.  They weren't pitted through anywhere but were solid rust color.

Thanks, Ed!

Those pipes look nicer than the MAC ones for the R65, I think.    And  the dual crossovers should allow for no changes to engine performance from the stock dual crossovers.  While my black LS mufflers aren't totally gone yet, they do need periodic sanding and painting, and likely have a couple years left, but my pipes are getting to be more of an effort to keep looking acceptable, and the front crossover is semi-permanently rusted on and has a broken off clamp.   Eventually, I'll have to make her look decent again, and maybe the shiny route won't be a bad change, hmm.

Make the most of the Exchange rate, if Angela Merkel trys to push through her latest plan for salvaging the Euro i promise you we wont accept it and at last our Politicians will be forced into a referendum and trust me we will be out of the EU if that happens (not before time) its anyone's guess where the £/$ will be after that but almost everyone i know has had enough of the EU experiments and the baggage we have had to carry as a result, my gut is the feeling is the pound will be stronger, nearer the 1.8 mark
