BMW R80 production ran from 1977 to 1984. Very nice looking 1966 model. A veritable time machine, it is.

I guess I'm missing something here.  In 1966 BMW's had plunger frames.  That's a dual shock.

Snowflakes on a 1966?????      It really is a time machine.

(P.S.,  I hope those are 18 inch snowflakes, because they do not look like the reinforced 19 inch snowflakes that were issued on the recall.)

What bothers me is that we have a bike with a frame which is 79 on an engine which is 81 on with 81 brembo brakes and yet its been registered as pre 66 we are governed by morons.

Governed by Morons? Well, here's a thought, my R65 is registered having only a single cylinder. It has passed the past DOT inspections (sorta like the MOT) without any of the inspectors realizing that the bike has two cylinders.

But don't forget that the R80 production continued, with the '85 and later bikes being monoshock model, as were the R65 and R100s.  ;)

Registered as a pre 66 ?  So is that saving the owner a bunch of money ?  That's the only reason I can think of...

Morons ?  Why yes, They're everwhere.  Especially in positions of authority and power...

When I went to register my '89 Moto Guzzi the DMV couldn't find that make in their computers. I had to go across town to see an inspector who would verify it was indeed a motorcycle, then take his paperwork back to DMV.

The good side to this is that the County classifies the bike as "other", and my property tax bill is only $18 per year

It is a 1985 (ish) model, and Lucky Loo, all he has done is get his normal reg put on a black silver plate.  Which I though was not quite legal.

If it was a 1960's plate the B would be at the end, not at the start.

Actually, I have just looked at the ebay advert and I would hardly call it a 'cafe racer'.  Its just a standard R80 with a single seat and an expensive paint job.  Not that that is a bad thing.  Its just not a Cafe Racer - in my book.

He has made no attempt to lighten the bike by removing anything extraneous.  He has not even removed the crash bars.  He has just taken a very good condition RT and chucked a wedge of cash at it to paint it, and now he is trying to recover his money - nothing really 'racer of rthe road' in that.  At least he shed the luggage I suppose. ;)

Price is a bit steep and all.
