Sciatica pain is awful...nauseating! I can't think of a worse situation for it either than sitting on a motorcycle seat for miles on end, no where to stretch out your legs and it's hot as all get out!! :o

Don't overdo it or try to be a 'sport' and make the back worse. Remember....it would seem that whatever we have hurt while we are young comes "back" to haunt us as we age! All old injuries like the usual kid ones when we played hard and healed up quickly, start to plague us at least me!

Remember my friend David with his broken back and now an added accident in a car recently to irritate his old injury further....he's on enough meds that I wonder how he thinks straight. He rides and that is his salvation but.....how long can that last? :-/

Bought my SuperSweepstakes/get in the rally free ticket yesterday myself.  Decided what the heck, it's time to make another rally and I ain't getting any younger.  Never mind the bad knee.  I plan on showing up on Thursday afternoon sometime.  I'll be camping.

Sue, I'll send you a PM with my cell phone.  Are you working oil change this year?  -Mike

Doing oil change and tallies and prizes too. The latter in air conditioning!

The jury is still out on that.  The R90 needs a new neutral indicator switch since the old one is leaking.  On order from Motobins.  The R1100S has rearsets and I'm not sure if my knee can go the distance without making me crankier than I already am.  The Guzzi California is a pretty comfortable ride and it's almost a beemer except with perkier jugs.  Right now I'm leaning to the Guzzi.

I have LRB all packed more or less...yeah...I know, it's an old thing to get ready this soon. Anyway, I like LRB as he has better gas range and no chain but he is old, with new stuff mind you, his caliper bleed screw passed the braknig tests Stew and I put it through but....hmmmm.....have put LED running lights on today..and 1 doesn't work, humph! Can ya change the bulb in an LED???? It doesn't look like it comes outta there :-?
LRB has a new tire on the rear. Front tire has 6000 miles on it but still lots of room to the TWI left. May still get it changed...what do you guys think?? 1000 miles to Sedalia, 1000 miles maybe to NC, 1000 miles home..so the front tire would have 9000 miles on it by the time I got home...it is a Metzler Lasertec. Have done that many miles before but I'm a worry wart now.

First question...is 9000 miles too much on a Lasertec front tire?

Second question...is it the front tube or the rear tube one takes as a spare?

I get between 10-12,000 miles on Lazertec front  tires .

That's with 36-40 psi in the tires .

I carry a front tube - it will still expand/fit the rear tire size and will fit the front tire (of course) without bunching up.   If you bring a rear tube and get a flat on the front, it is harder to get it in there without bunches/pinches, etc as it is oversize.   Of course, about 80% of the flats one gets on the road are the rear tire...but.

Meeting at Sedalia Rally
« Reply #24 on: July 09, 2012, 06:57:43 PM »
Hi Gang,

I'm planning to be at the Sedalia Rally Friday & Saturday & departing back to Minnesota Sunday morning.

Would be nice if we can hang out for a little while and talk shop!  My cell is 612 7438681.  Probably texting is best.  There is a map of the rally posted on the BMW ON website.  Perhaps we can meet inside where it's air conditioned or we can attend an airhead wrenching educational seminar - there are several scheduled.

Looking forward to it!

I should be there if work doesn't get in the way like it did last year.  Sue and Mike have my number.  Haven't seen everyone since Johnson City, looking forward to it.  The building at the beer garden is air conditioned if I am not mistaken.  ;)

Well, I'll be there from Wednesday on, mostly at the Airhead Tent, I think.  I live only 1.5 hours away.  Last name is Sweet (yes.)  I hope to meet some of you there.  I wouldn't be riding my '86 R65 right now without your help.

Friday in the eveining at the beer tent might be a grand plan for meeting. I'll have the red R65 cap with the headlights on it....cap clip lights! Beer tent is always a good plan ;)

Got the phone numbers, thanks.

Decided to have the tire changed anyway. Number one reason or rationalization i.e.: front will now match the rear being a BT45 Bridgestone AND, two, it will most likely be lots of hot weather ahead and I don't need another anything to be on my mind causing doubt.

It seems to be harder each year to get the gumption up to actually head out on one of these long rides.

Is there anyone out there who would think it wiser to take the Bonneville as it is newer, FI or any other reason?? It is a BMW Rally so that's one reason to take LRB along with gas range and no chain.
Ya see...there I go again with the doubting! :-/ :-/

I'm riding my K75s - much more comfortable than my R65LS.
As much as I love my airhead, I know the K will get me there quickly, comfortably, and dependably.

One question here for you Texans and eastern/southerners: what combo of outer wear do you recommend for humid weather? Got both a Tourmaster Flex jacket that is mesh underneath and a semi-waterproof outer jacket one can use or not AND my many-zippered vents Olympia AST 3/4 jacket which just comes waterproof but quite airy.
In the dry heat I have no problem: just a good vented textile with cool ice vest type thing underneath and vents partially open or not.
Humid weather is tough. I got through the Bloomsburg heat with the Olympia and vents open but just. Pant choice is either total mesh or Klim well vented waterproof, or a pair of zip-off BMW pants in beige.

I am tending to wear what worked in Bloomsburg as long as I don't stop!!!
