Tripped across this photo while cleaning out an old file cabinet.

Moiser Valley MotoCross Park, near Fort Worth, Texas, was THE MX track to conquer in February of 1972.

Yamaha AT1-MX upgraded with 21-inch front rim, pipe, Petty plastic fenders, bars, steel-cleat foot pegs and some hacksaw work.

Twenty-five year-old rider, that be me, with English-imported Big John MX boots -they came by sea very slowly- tailored leather pants and suspenders over the jersey. Note the rubber bumper strips on the at the time trendy motocross gloves. Open face helmet but missing my Jofa/hockey gear mouth guard. All period correct. I have the scars to prove it.

Must have come off a small rise as the suspension is pretty well compressed.

Ring ding ding ding... Thought I was pretty fast back then. I don't remember ever being that young!

There was a time, back in the day, when long hair flowing aft of the helmet was considered de rigueur for semi-serious racers. This was before the stick-on Mohawks now so popular with the poseur crowd.

As I was then employed as a graphic design artist, the bosses tolerated me... a little bit. And it was fun for awhile.

Nowadays, I can still pass all AFI 36-2903, Dress and Personal Appearance of Air Force Personnel.

That picture is back from when the world was still black and white.  I vaguely remember those days.

Here's some shots taken in the early 70's at a place called Newnes, about 3 hours or so from Sydney. The dilapidated pub still had a license. It was & is a "ghost town" and remains of Shale Mining & Refining but the pub served bottled beer & closed when the last patron left for their campsite or footpath depending on which state that they were in.

Newnes itself is very interersting from an Industrial Archeological view point.

Wolgan Valley Railway. - They used "Shay" geared locomotives imported from the USA.

 [smiley=beerchug.gif] That pub still exists. It was seriously undermined by flooding of the Wolgan River about 25 yrs ago and, in one weekend, a hundred or more volunteers turned up and moved it by hand, no heavy equipment, across the road & up 100 metres.

Alcohol plays a very important part in some peoples lives  

However, it's now a Cafe (And the only building left standing from the "old days.") because, the licensing inspector turned up probably for the first time in a hundred years, a year or two later, and declared it not fit for use as a hotel & took away the license.

In that group, most of us are still friends although I'm the only one who still rides. (I'm the bloke in the white Levi jacket & it stayed that way for the whole weekend, I'll have you know.   The bike is a Kawasaki Samurai 250, 1969.) The girl tiptoing through the river had her 60th party two weeks ago.

It would seem we are sharing the same year of birth...1947! At the time I was riding a RT1 360 Yamaha that I could not start with the kickstarter. Seeing as that was the only option, I relied on my then hubbie to start it. Sold it and ordered a 1974 Can Am 175 TNT. Gee I had long hair too and had made my very own Can Am shirt. The Ducati 1967 Scrambler was inching towards being a cafe racer. I bought it from my brother but never road it on the road.

You go girl! Didn't have any female motorcycle enthusiasts back in the day, except for those that liked to do it "pillion style".  I sure did like the USA-named 250cc Ducati "Diana".

Yep, we be of the Boomer Generation, Sue, although I was born in 1946 -not surprisingly just nine months after my ol' man returned from the CBI.
