Smug satisfaction ...
« on: May 17, 2012, 11:11:57 AM »
Yesterday while riding the r65 home from work, I pull up next to a local moto-cop on his huge Harley.  As traffic moves, I end up slightly ahead of him and in the middle lane, and he is in the left lane. Because I don't have a speedometer or tach, I just kept the moto-cop in my rear-view and pace him.

The far right lane merges into my lane and as it does so some young guy on a sport bike, in proper squid attire (shorts, t-shirt, flip-flops and a full-faced helmet) screams by me on the right and cuts off a couple cars ahead of me, weaving in and out between lanes/cars.

I immediately glance in my left rear-view and see the moto-cop flip on his lights, so I move over to the right side of my lane and the cop takes that opening and roars by me, in full pursuit. I would estimate 50mph or so (in a 30mph zone).

I watch as they weave in and out until the squid finally sees the moto-cop and he eventually pulls over.  I'm not embarrassed to admit that I was a bit smug seeing the squid pulled over.

I look at it, as 'natural selection' will have it's day some time in the future if the rider keeps at it .

I would say on average, I hear the traffic reports for the Phoenix area morning and evening rush hour and there is usually at least one or two motorcycle involved 'incidents' reported each rush hour period .

I always wonder the cause(s) of the incidents are .

The Arizona Department of Transportation  (ADOT), releases the statistics on the previous years motor vehicle collisions around June .

I've looked at the motorcycle statistics and the most common factor, is excess speed .

The second is failure of the other vehicle involved, to see the motorcyclist .

Weaving in and out of heavy traffic is the surest way to get hit .

Riding all year long since 1993 .
I'll give up my R65, when they pry my cold dead hands from the handlebars !!!!!

Enjoy it when you can, I say!   Of course, I was *hoping* that there would be a cop around when the A&&h*le in the big black pickup going about 50 MPH passed me on a double solid line in a 25 MPH school zone  while school was in session.  But, nooooooooo.....
