My brother just stole a 2002 Royal Enfield for £400 ($600ish) the seller is downsizing and his bikes must go... this K75 with 30k miles has a price tag of £700 ($1,000) down side its not run for 4 years, should i have a punt at it and what problems do you think i may encounter.

With 30 K miles on it there should not be too many problems.  If I were to buy it the first thing I would do before starting it (probably with a new battery) would be to change the engine, transmission and rear end oil.  Then I would start it and run it for 50 miles and then change the oil again with the engine hot this time.

I had a '92 K1100lt several years ago and I really regret that I sold it.  I'd buy the K75 in a heartbeat.

I would also repack the wheel bearings and swing arm bearings and grease the splines.

Well its a done deal picking it up tomorrow i was working on the information supplied by my brother ..... it gets better, it comes with the full pannier set and is a runner, i embarrassingly did a bit of arm wrestling with the seller and knocked him down to £650 before i found that,  its currently  on a SORN ticket whichmeans i will have  just to MOT it and back on the road in no time...Lucky me.....

The K75 has the smoothest running engine that BMW has ever put in a motorcycle .

K75 is a nice bike - though if the ABS computer goes out, that can be an expensive item to fix.   IT will still work (but not provide ABS) without the controller oeprational, but the idiot light will usually cause failure of the safety inspection over here.

The K75 engine is nice - has a substantial "whine" to it, but they are very smooth, not buzzy like the K100, and they have decent torque.  The valve adjustments require buying shims, but aren't too hard to do once you get the proper tool to remove the shims, and the adjustments often will run 25000 miles or better.   The only issue I've seen several owners have with K75 RT bikes was failure of the rear shock - I don't why they seem to blow out, but I know of at least 2-3 K75RT owners who have had this same problem.   Otherwise, they are quite bulletproof machines (except for the speedometers, of course - but what else can you expect from a BMW)

I brought my '91 K75S and rode it around Europe and the UK for 15K km before shipping back home.  An absolute delight to ride and generally trouble free.  

I rode it yesterday after a two year absence.  I have slowly been putting money into it as it has gently deteriorated.  Thank you Motobins and Motorworks.  After a quick run and then some new fuel and a good thirty minutes ride around the Mountain its sweetness came back to me.  I was starting to open it up a bit and all those old memories started to flow back (thinking of a couple of weeks on a hire bike in the Alps next year).  

With all the ups and downs of life I an soooooooo glad I did not sell it.  It has about 82K km on the speedo.  The shims were good and only one has been changed in its life.  Dropped the oils, filters etc and a few minor jobs to do - lots of corrosion.  I am sort of in a position where I cannot bear to sell it, as it means so much to me.  

Anyway, I am putting a new rear tyre on the R65 tomorrow.  My daily commute, if the weather is fair is my '03 F650 GS Dakar.  Great around town in the traffic.

Lou, be sure to give the brake master cylinder a good going over and replace the fluids.  Earlier K bikes had a very bad low fuel sensor and will usually begin reading low with around 1/2 tank left.  Very frustrating.  They don't sound much like a motorcycle, more like a well oiled Singer sewing machine, but handle pretty well.  The longer wheel base may take a bit of getting used to.  They are great on the open road though.  Congratulations on your bit of larceny there with the price.

Just got home with the Bike and felt abit bad. As i left the old boys wife was telling me about some of their trips over the years and burst into tears..........i assured her i would take good care of it (now named Willy as i could not stop singing "on the road again" on the way home).
It has the full BMW luggage kit which looks brand new, old MOTs etc however i am in deep do do with the wife and wont be able to touch it for about a month due to the chores she has given me... small price for a nice toy, i will post some pictures later.

You will love it! I bought my K75s before I got my first R65 and I will not get rid of either one. The K bike is as smooth as glass on the highway and even though a lot of people knock it I think it has a very nice, distinctive exhaust note.

The K75s suffered fro the same inadequate instrument lighting as my R65. This guy sells an LED replacement kit for all the instruments. I bought one and I can tell you the difference is amazing. I can't imagine riding with the originals anymore.
