Sold off the Honda CB 200 over the weekend
« on: August 02, 2011, 07:23:18 PM »
So last night, with the new space in the garage, I moved the R65 around to suit.

I could tell something wasn't right with the front fender since the crash almost 3 years ago, so I figured the fender brace must have gotten bent.
I found a used one for @ $25 on eBay with a 12-day return policy, so what the heck.  The description said it was straight.

Then I started removing my old, nasty headers so I could install the new ones (it was a relatively cool middle of the night) and I quickly realized from the oil on the engine mount nuts (both sides) that the push rod tube seals must be leaking.  Well, that and the oil on my boots last May when I rode to Columbus, OH and back.

So I got on MAX BMW and ordered up new seals, and two header/muffler clamps while I was at it.  I was trying the T-Clamp thing, but they were not really working out too well.

Then I noticed the left-rear turn signal was loose on it's stalk, and I opened it up to check it out.
The screws were quite tight.
I plan to use some soda pop can material for a shim to take up the space.

Kind of a nice change from sitting on my ass watching T.V. all night.  ;)

Uh, Rob. . .

Sounds like you're doing an awful lot of work on that old "for sale" R65 of yours, eh? you 'ol Hoser... I mean Hoosier. Yeah, Hoosier.

Could we sorta maybe kinda read into this renewed activity that you aren't so hot on selling the R? Hope so.

The way the front fender looked, it was pretty obvious there was a problem.
I didn't see any hope of bending that brace back straight, though.  And you know it was having a negative influence on the forks.
In fact, upon inspection of the inside, I could see where the tire was rubbing on one side.

And I had the headers (brand new OEM) hanging from a rafter, so I decided to go ahead and install them.
I got the old ones off last night, after a fight with the left one - NEVER use Permatex® High-Temp Red RTV Silicone Gasket on your headers if you have a leak (like I did with the MAC headers).  I thought I would never get that header to come out of the exhaust port.
Then I went in with sand paper and cleaned off any remnants - and that took a while.  That glue is some tough stuff!

But I can't put the new headers on until my package from MAX arrives.

I guess you could say I am enjoying working on it, now that I have made some space in the garage.
It really pleased me how easily it started a week ago, after sitting since May.
I wish my mesh Kevlar pants were more comfortable, I might ride occasionally.  But I'm leaving the ad on Craig's List for now.

More like fixing Google Maps.  I just spent an hour cleaning it up.  Someone tried to take over that Google account for their own personal use!  >:(
