Are you a "hobby" biker  or is it your only means?

I usually ride one of the bikes everyday, but I do have four wheel transportation for inclement weather, or for hauling anything that won't fit in a backpack .

Riding all year long since 1993 .
I'll give up my R65, when they pry my cold dead hands from the handlebars !!!!!

Hobby biker...I am retired and use the cycle to run errands around town and to cruise the local country roads. I make trips in to Austin to baby sit the grand kids... about 80 miles round trip, ever now and then. Monday I will make a run to San Antonio, about a 150 mile round trip but my trips rarely exceed 120 miles or so. I have been know to turn around and go get my pickup when days go over 100 degrees or lower than 40. So I would say a fair weather, hobby rider. If it isn’t comfortable I am not doing it...  I didn’t start riding till I was 60..when I bought myself a R27 for my birthday.

Addicted hobby biker. Is there a better way to start the day. I ride every dry day to work and grudgingly use the car in the wet, snow or salt mainly because the car is easier to clean. We've had a dry spell so I already rode 8 very cold days in January.  Enjoy some longer two up rides when the weather is warmer.

Hobby...never liked the idea of commuting in all that traffic.  I like the open roads through the countryside - no interstates, if I can help it!   Now lately, it's the fields out behind our house on the dirt bikes.  A new hobby!

Hobby biker, that includes shopping (using the Hepco/Becker cases). Once or twice a year a bit further, like a long weekend trip to visit family or friends, maybe 200 miles away. Used to have 3 bikes, R65, a 1968 BSA B44 and a new LML scooter, that's an India made clone of the old Vespa. Now just have the R65 and small car, Renault Clio. These days I no longer go two wheels unless thermometer is over around 8 degrees C, that's 45 F and I avoid rain if possible (though have waterproofs ready). Old age creeping up I guess.

I have a car, and a bike, but ride the bike most days, so does that make me a hobby Valiant driver ?

Forget the weatherman and their lame forecasts; I check my Accu-Window for all two-or-four wheel decisions.

What you folks are describing as a hobby biker is probably a hard core biker in most peoples' minds.

I'm right there with you.  Unless there's a very good reason to take four wheels, I jump on a bike to get somewhere.

I wouldn't call it a hobby, it's just transportation that I enjoy.  I took my truck off the road to restore it, so my bikes are all I have for now.  But I've started riding my mountain bicycle to commute to where I can catch the bus, and only ride the motorbike when the bus is really inconvenient.

This year I hope to bicycle more miles than I motorcycle.   :)

Hard Core.  I ride in cold and I ride in the hot.  I ride in the rain and I've ridden in snow.  I look for any excuse to go riding.  I like a challenge:  1200 miles on a BSA in 24 hours - no problem.   Jaxsonville Fl to Sandiego CA in 44 hours and 36 minutes - Why not(Sept 2006).

IF some one wants to go ride and needs somebody to tag along, I'm a sucker if asked.  Got me in trouble last week when I followed I guy on street tires and the "road" turned into a mud bog.  My Dualsport BSA with Knobbies did OK but the BMW 1150R on street tires did terrible.

My bikes are my only means of transport, i have't owned a car for 11yrs now, but it is sorta easy not to own a car with no kids to lug around.

I guess that I am a bit of both - probably more hobby biker, though I will certainly ride in inclement weather.  I will use a motorcycle for commuting to work when I can, but often I have to carry to much equipment or it doesn't fit/too heavy for saddlebags.
Maybe if I get the sidecar rig together I'll motorbike to work more often too.

I'm not sure. I mostly use my bike to commute, that's the only time I can find to ride for the most part.
I've ridden most of January, and we've had a very cold one for North Carolina. But i won't ride in the ice or snow. I actually enjoy riding in the rain. So, What does that make me?
