More like low-vis! Health-and-safety nuts would go ape. And what is respect, anyway? My Oxford dictionary defines it as deferential regard -- well you can keep it! I don't much like people being deferential.

Now theres a can o worms most folk dont realize theres a right and wrong way or which way it should be hung or what the individual colours represent.

Well Lou that would certainly catch my eye but then again I'm also an old Britt bike fan so the union jack always turns my head! The reflective trim seems just the kit for nighttime. I've been noticing a number of  neon / day glow chartreuse vests here in the desert and because I notice them have been considering getting one.

I'm not into hi viz vests, but my daughter made me one for fun for Xmas. It's made out of heavy duty denim, cut like a suit vest and satin lined....I'll have to get a sink chain for the fob pockets.Being a dressmaker, she has the buttons backwards.

A good read for the non-U.K. residents out there.

But run-away nationalism really makes me not open threads, no matter which country is being discussed.

Just for the record the "Union Jack" as it currently stands was designed and adopted in 1801 to mark the union with Ireland it consists of the  the Flag of St George (England) the flag of St Andrew (Scotland ) and the flag of St  Patrick (Ireland) all imposed on top of one another.
It seems the Welsh dont get a look in.

I understand the Stars are representative of the States of the USA  but are the Stripes significant ??
Interestingly if you scroll down the Wikky page it features the flags of Baton Rouge Louisiana  and Taunton Massachusetts which also feature the pre 1801 Union Jack ?? must be a Colonial thing.
Turning into an interesting  history lesson
Lou
Motu... the gear we wear for reenacting has the buttons the "wrong" way round and its surprising how awkward it makes it to get dressed.

I very much like your jacket, Lou. I'm sure the reflective materials are highly visible at night. All my riding jackets have some sort of reflective materials incorporated into their design.

And like you, I also have some "reflective" bits in my hair. People tell me it shows up quite well! ;D

The thirteen stripes in the American flag represent the original thirteen colonies that rebelled against the British monarchy and became the first states in the Union.

Texas has had the flags of six nations flown over our state. Among the six, several have gone through variations upon a theme.

BTW, the UNited States has a "Union Jack" flag. Not to be confused with your national emblem, our "jack" is flown from the jackstaff on US Navy vessels and other governmental entities.

Alot of re enactor wannabes make the mistake of flying the Confederate Jack over their camps not realizing the Army Battle flag is Square with a white boarder  the rectangular one being for the Navy.
It cost me a fortune at the hairdressers to have the grey streaks put in im just a slave to fashion.....at least i still have my own teeth.
Lou
This is my favourite flag make of it what you will..Ive stood where it flew and always been a sucker for the underdog.

This is a back-pack I bought for use on my Honda CB200 for commuting, when I finish the bike.
It was made by an English company - BeSeenOnABike.

This particular model doesn't show up on their website, any more. :(
