Stock junk shocks
« on: April 08, 2008, 05:45:54 PM »
Don't see anything to identify the rear shock manufacturer on my R65. Do these appear to be the original BMW OEM product? Perhaps seventeen years old? Good lord.

General consensus it that these shocks make good fishing line sinkers after replacing them with Koni's. Any help with the Koni part number would be appreciated.  Monte

those are after market shocks. the stock shocks have a small lever under the spring to lighten of stiffen the spring. not that those are all that bad but shocks have come a long way since the late 70's and 80's.

This is what the stock shocks looked like (after MUCH too long!)

Hagon makes a decent replacement for not too much money.

Koni is no longer in business.  A company bought their stuff, though, and now produces the Ikon shock absorber.

I'm a poverty rider and can't really afford the Ikon or Ohlins units but Hagons met my price / performance curve. you'll need to talk to Dave at: http://www.davequinnmotorcycles.com/
looks like you have progressive springs on... who knows what there!

Nope. The muffs are a soft black color from the R65LS scooter. They look pretty sharp. Better photo at my earlier post. See  My "new" R65 in General Announcements area.

Thanks for the info,gents.

As Rob said, Koni's are no longer made but they pop up on ebay once in a while. i tried to get them but i got sniped...TWICE. there's a lot out there, Works, Progressive, Ikon, and i believe that the originals were called Boge or something like that. I'm still on my stocks but once i get a job i'll be in business once again (check out my Operation Spring Break post)
