Great Ocean road mishap for two motorcyclists.
« on: November 17, 2010, 11:58:12 PM »
This is what my wife fears when i ride.
Dickheads in cars wiping out motorbikes.
And I can't believe he got off so light.
For those not familiar with the great ocean road in Victoria, it's a beautiful scenic winding road along the cliffs facing Bass Strait.
BUT beware there be fools along this road.
Idiots who try to race along it and it has many blind corners.

It is "no fault" policy in Geelong?   I would think that even if the municipality didn't charge a stiffer penalty, this guy and his insurance company can each sue the driver for medical costs, pain and suffering, lost wages, etc. and at least make the cost to the driver at fault get up into the hundreds of thousands..

Yeah - I was thinking "$3000 for a trauma patient?"  Doctors must get minimum wage over there!

There are efforts here to discourage young men from riding motorcycles at all, notably by making the driving test unnecessarily difficult. I think that's really silly. Competitive, aggressive young men will crash anyway -- better they do it on a bike where they only kill themselves than in a car where they kill others.

Geelong? Victoria police are the relevant authority, not a local council.

We have compulsory no fault insurance cover for traffic injuries in Victoria. If you fly in from Texas for a holiday you don't need to check out your Australian friend's insurance before deciding if being a passenger in a crash while they give you a lift somewhere might bankrupt you. You will be covered.
