What? An AGV helmet? Like, for Motorcycles? What became of your Chinese MiG pilot's brain bucket? [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I don't much care for dem Star Trek communicators thingys. Riding a motorcycle is communication enough... for me.

Monte - The mig helmet was constructed with true chinese quality. Each individual component was quite well made, it's just the way it was put together and it just slowly fell apart!
And, it was damned noisy.
And it was useless in the rain - Even the top of my head got wet!

The AGV is quiet, it fits well and it was not too pricey (for this country).
As far as the Star Wars Bluetooth thingy is concerned, it is not so distracting as having my other half dig me in the ribs every time she wished to point out something interesting like a rabid dog, a tsunami, or exploding volcano!

Fortunately the volcanic ash seems to be going the other way, i.e. North West. It should reach the UK in about 2 months. Thats if another volcano, Anak Krakatau does not join in fun 'n games.

You are safe for the moment Lou.

My club keeps making noises about going with GMRS for motorcycle communication.  But I can seem to build up the energy or the dollars that would be required for such a farkel.

Graham and I use Collett Communicators (http://www.collettcommunicators.com/).  Had them since 1998 and have just gotten updated units this year.  They are a bit finicky, but once you get them set, they work well.  We do not travel the major highways very often, so wind noise is not too much of a problem.

Another system, The AutoCom,  is designed for high speed motorcycle communication.  We didn't want to be tied to the bike and the Collett's are self-contained, so no wires to plug or unplug.

The communicators have made a WORLD of difference in our enjoyment of riding together.  We don't chat,  :-X  just use them to point out things or whatever.

We've used them with several different helmets as well, Nolan, Arrow, Shoei...

After working around jet aircraft for the last 34 years, my high end hearing is impaired .

I like to give it the medical term GSD, or Gender Selective Deafness, because I have the most difficulty hearing and understanding female voices . ::)

Love it Bob, I've always referred to it as domestic deafness, trouble hearing the same frequency as GSD.

Derek just got hearing aids!!! It's wonderful...for me! No more arguments about what was said although the entertainment value of asking him what he thought I said has gone. He removes them to his advantage at times but he's giving them the old college try!

David and I used Autocom but never got it to work right..he thought it was great as he couldn't hear me but I heard him! I can sure see the value of them to avoid having to roar up beside your buddy to say "stop" I gotta go!! I can never catch david and sometimes, as happened to Melena, something goes wrong with your bike or ya gotta change something that you forgot to do and you can't catch up. Larry rode quite a ways before he realized Melena wasn't behind him!
Bike to bike vs driver to passenger. It is my contention that Bluetooth isn't there yet. At least my bluetooth Vemar helmet doesn't have great sound quality. Waste of money for me so I am still wired to the bike. Best music quality for me comes from headphones I popped off Koss Sportapros and stuffed in the ear cavities of my helmet. Quality! But that doesn't help answer your question..sorry.

Nice to hear from you Aïda!!! Wintering well I hope!

Communications for me consists of sufficient hand flailing to make any rider along simply follow me. It fits well with my 2d navigation system which is a piece of note paper taped to the tank. Sorry to not be of any help but I truly enjoy the dome of silence with only the motor for music and conversation.

I am also kinda of an old holdout - no music to distract me, no radio communications, no GPS - just a map and notes on a tankbag and hand signals for me, too.

Yeah, been away for awhile.  My bad...
Winter hasn't set in just quite yet.  We're spending most of our riding time on the dirt bikes these days.  Learning to ride in deep sand. . .fun and frustrating stuff!  It's nice to be able to talk to each other...

"Which way do you want to go now?"
"Let's go that way this time."
"Watch out for that big hole to your left!!"
"Jeez!  Really DEEP sand here!"
"POSTED sign...should we go there anyway?"
etc. . .  ;D
