Correct Frame Paint?
« on: October 29, 2010, 12:39:19 PM »
Does anyone know the correct paint for a BMW frame? I am getting my bike ready for its engine transplant and want to freshen it up a little bit. I may consider powder coating the rear sub-frame. The frame appears to be satin black, but restored bikes appear to be closer to semi-gloss.

Dont powder coat it unless you want the stitch counters on your back...red oxide primer and Black Gloss. You can order here with just the make year and model..... they claim to sort the code, hope it helps

Thanks Lou...long time off here...back with the living again. Getting my R65LS for the Frankenbeemer transplant. I will undoubtedly have many more questions about myriad topics. I will post photos of the whole process, and will probably pick the engine up in St. Louis this weekend (420 miles west of me...a nice long drive for a good and noble purpose...LOL!).

The topic of painting a frame was recently brought up on Boxerworks.  You may want to read through the posts.  There aren't too many of them! http://boxerworks.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=797
