R65 back on the road! do i sell the R1100GS
« on: September 01, 2010, 02:40:48 AM »
Its been awhile since i have been on here, as a couple of years ago i bought an R1100GS, which to be honest has been great! So much faster than the mono, ABS telelever suspension etc etc. But.... when i see the old girl in my folks garage i do feel i should be out on her.
And now my commute is down to only 3miles each way i think its time to get her going! so a quick battery charge, and oil change and she will be back on the road!
But what do i do with the R1100GS? she does need a lil work, as i live by the sea and the salt has eaten various bits...
Do i store her for a rainy day? or sell her and get another airhead( that wont loose value)

Anyway its good to be back!
Ill post some pics of the R65 mono when i get her going again.
and im sure ill be back on here asking questions etc  again.

Have a good day all!

Cheers
Ben.

2 bikes is ideal - one can always have a bike to ride while the other one is undergoing maintenance/repair.  Plus, I use the R65 for fun, shorter trips (usually) while I save my large sport touring bike for longer commutes and big trips with lots of gear or for riding 2-up.

I would keep both, but for a 3 mile commute I would walk or ride a bicycle.

If you can keep both of the bikes out of the weather, keep them both !!!

Riding all year long since 1993 .
I'll give up my R65, when they pry my cold dead hands from the handlebars !!!!!

Keep it even though a 3 mile commute is not the best way to treat an engine. Mine is only 8 miles round trip so I try to get longer rides in at weekends and change the oil twice as often. I commute on the bike all year round because I love to ride the bike. Is there a better way to start the day ?

Anyway short trips would be just as bad for the car if not worse.

hi.
thanks for the replies!
i think i might keep both but im not sure, as for cycling.. i do sometimes but its hilly and nothing worse than starting the day sweeting like a pig!

the GS is on the drive at the moment as the shed is full of kayaks and bicycles! but i will see if i can get them both in there! :-)

good to be back on here anyway!
