/2 r69s parts - need your honest opinion...
« on: February 03, 2010, 09:57:29 AM »
Hey fellas (and ladies),

I'm in the process of cataloging and trying to think about selling all the miscellaneous used /2 parts that belonged to my father in law... not including the big Churchgate tank.

I've got a guy in San Diego who just offered me $1,300 for all the /2 parts I can find, including the r69s engine but excluding the Churchgate tank. Still confirming if he wants the old modified /2 frame and rear wheel/etc.  Keep in mind ALL of this stuff is original, used (and sometimes abused) parts/pieces.  The 5 carbs are in great shape, and are matching.

I won't be shipping anything, as he has a friend here in Tucson that can pick up the stuff.

Can you all take a quick look at the following pictures and let me know if $1300 is a good deal, or no? I'm not looking to be independently wealthy, but I don't wanna "get took" either.

Your advice is MUCH appreciated.

Graeme, It's only a good deal if it suits both dealer and dealee. Big help, huh?

What are your loose plans for the materials? Might you eBay 'em and earn more $ or less? Shipping the stuff can be a pain, IMHO. The tank is worth a bunch so eBaying it could be a good thing. I once sold a knife on eBay and it brought enough to pay for my first R65.

I did look at the snaps but, quien sabe, si? $1300 and buyer picks up doesn't sound too shabby. [smiley=2cents.gif]

I'm currently selling the big Churchgate tank on ebay. A couple days to go and we'll see how it goes.  Frankly, the thought of organizing, cleaning, ebay-ing (is that a word) and shipping everything will be a pain.  Especially the large, heavy stuff.

So I'm inclined to take this fellow's offer.  Just wanted to get an opinion or two.  THanks, Monte!

I would think $1300 is a fair offer, as it is being picked up.
I don't think Matt Richards in Georgia would consider it, because of the distance.  You can always call or write him:

I doubt it would be worth his time to do a hard appraisal, unless he is having a slow day!  Tell him I sent you, if you do call.

I know I don't have the resources or talent to resurrect what your sweetie inherited.  If SHE is happy with $1300 - you will be happy!

Good luck on the tank.

Thanks, Rob.  The fiance really isn't attached to these parts or what her dad was planning on doing with them. She has his ring and his r65, and that's all she really wanted because they were "him."

The tank's bidding is creeping up but we'll see.  There are more than 40 people watching the bidding though!  Hopefully that is an indication it will pick up some momentum in the next day.

The $1300 will certainly help pay off some of his leftover bills.

In these uncertain times, getting rid of debt is a priority.  If these monies are all aboveboard and have to get taxed as inheritance, make sure that you get a counter-credit for using the money to pay off any debts he left behind.  I should think it should work that way.  Make sure you have good legal and tax advice.

Well, I was thinking you were younger than you are (now that I look!).  Hopefully you have your priorities.  I didn't when I was your age...  ::)

Good luck.

AZ, you might run that question by either Hucky in Florida,  http://www.bmwhucky.com/, or (somebody help me here) Vech in Mississippi, http://www.benchmarkworks.com/restoration/bmwr512r5.html.  They are specialists in the /2 and vintage markets.

Thanks again... we are going through a Probate lawyer and have our bases covered. A good tax guy, too. That was one good thing about John... he hated any type of debt.  No credit card debt, his property to pay off, and a couple grand in medical bills. Nothing too bad.  And my fiance is an only child so she gets everything... makes things simple.

If you are happy, I am sure the buyer will be, too!

Congratulations.

Not a local pick-up, by chance?  (wouldn't that be nice!)

I think that's pretty fair as well.  No shipping, it'll be sold and done with with no ebay hassles.  Since she's not 'attached' to the parts, you guys will have the $$, the guy in SD will have the goods.  Everyone's happy.

I happen to come across a guy in SoCal that needed to part with a boat load of Guzzi Stornello parts.  He was moving out of town, couldn't take the stuff with him and needed the $$.  I had the $$ and needed some parts.   Good deal for both of us.

Is the guy in San Diego Tim Stafford?  If so, those parts will go to a good home.  Tim makes nut-and-bolt perfect restorations.

Thanks, all! Yes, in fact... the fellow is Tim Stafford.  Apparently he has almost convinced his wife to come on out for a Tucson overnight stay to pick up everything.
