Hey all. Just a start up post to say gday. Have had my 1984 R65 for just over a year now, but it took me 8 months to get it the way I wanted it. Its such a sweet motor and very giving. I not into overly showy bits and peices, but couldnt resist the personalised plate. 8-) Will be pestering a few for info on nailing down one or two niggling probs that have shown themselves.
 Cheers
Craig

Beautiful R65 you've got there, Craig. [smiley=beer.gif] I spot quite a few custom touches. You're obviously a pretty good wrench and fabricator.

A hearty welcome to you. Lots of your countrymen on this site. Spend some time with us.

Yeah its not exactly stock i will say. The motor is stock, but I wanted something alittle special. Didnt like the side covers and word was they fell off frequently, so I fabricated some up out of aluminium to mach the shape of the subframe. The ductail is of 1.6mm sheet steel to go with the solo seat. Gotta love solo rego in Queensland. Rear guard was trimed by 40mm to give it a shallower look and front guard was cut 50mm at the front and 75mm at the rear. Got the tinwork wet painted and a bit of powdercoating here and there, an R100 tank and there she is. As I said Im not much for gordy trinkets, but always wanted a personalised plate, and it was available so I got it. ::)
Glad you guys like it.
 cheers
Craig

Fantastic looking ride there!  Love the look of the little guy.  Say, is that your pet dingo in the background?  Ask Monte about his chicken sometime.

Hi Craig,

Welcome!

How did you get the R100 tank on the bike?  It looks great!  I didn't think they would fit.

Gumby, ANYTHING can be made to fit!  :D

Hunsta, very nice "stealth" mods, not too "in your face" and very tasteful.  Post details (pictures and discussion) of your gas-tank conversion in the technical section, I know there are a number of us who would like to see how YOU did it.

Oh, and PM me to order your bmwr65.org ball-cap, just what you need for reclining in style!

As for the seat, its a dual seat cut in two. With the back half welded onto the front section to form a solo seat. then I just had the foam formed to that shape. I wasnt trying to lowerit. But just get into the bike more.
Now the tank is 24ltrs as opposed to 22ltrs in the R65 tank. As for fitting  the tank, I cant take any credit for that as it came with the bike as well as the R65 tank. As far as i know, the part at the front of the frame that holds the tank was raised up and then the rear securing bar put in place. Its a rather snug fit to the frame.

I'm just curious, is the front fender mounted on backwards, or is it something other than a stock fender?  The reason I ask is that it looks a lot like the way my bike looked after I had my bike repainted and put everything back on, I realized I had installed the front fender backwards!   :-[   Ooops!

No its not on backwards. I trimmed it at the back and front to make it more sportier than the stock look. I took about 75mm off the rear and 50mm at the front.
