What does "never ridden in the rain" refer to???
« on: December 05, 2009, 01:53:44 PM »
Ok....explain this thing to me please. I have seen several ads on cycles that say.......”never ridden in the rain.” Ok, what is this referring to..........a pampered cycle... a garage queen? How would riding in the rain hurt a cycle? I don’t really like to ride in the rain...but stuff happens. I once got caught in a hail storm in a Jeep CJ with a bikini top. Ok I could understand if they said never ridden in a hail storm.......I think I still have dents in my head from that one....but never ridden in a rain........I don’t understand. :D

I dunno, Scotty. Maybe the owner lived with The Mommas and The Poppas. You know. as in... "It never rains in California..." Or perhaps the scooter was never washed?

I've got two cars, a '79 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, and an '01 BMW Z-3 3.0i, that have never been driven in, let alone rained on, an I am the original owner on both vehicles .

Only time they have gotten wet, is when they get washed .

The windshield wipers on both cars have never been used, and both vehicles still have the factory windshield washer fluid in the reservoir .

So to answer your question, they are 'pampered' vehicles .

I've often wondered about this myself.  Whenever I see it in the local Craig's list, I figure either the seller has perfect weather-forecasting skills, or never rides more than 10 miles from home.  Here in Vermont, you just assume at some point you're gonna get wet.  That's why they make rain gear.  I accept the occasional wet ride as part of the bargain, and in fact, like riding on a cold but clear day, it makes you feel alive to the world.  And makes the really nice days just that much better.

The owner is a fair weather rider.
He never rides to work, because we all know that the weather can change in most places in a 8-hour period.

And when he does ride, it is never far enough from home that he can't make it back "in time"!

The way i understand the term "never ridden in the rain" means that the bike does't have the dreaded road grime which gets everywhere when the bike gets ridden in the rain. For instance the last bike i owned which was a inline 4, behind the 2 & 3 header pipe the block got really dirty (i could't get my hand in there to clean that area, the area was to tight to get at), but behind 1 & 4 header pipe it was clean (i could clean that area)...Anyway as we all know roads have all kinds of "stuff" "junk" on them, oil, dirt, sand etc & if you ride the bike in the rain all this "junk" mixes with the water (from the rain ::)) & gets thrown up, under, over your bike from your tyres & from the cars in front of you & the cars which are coming the other way...In my opinion if a seller says "never ridden in the rain" the bike should be in very good condition, as it does't have a built up road grime in the "hard to get areas"..

Seems to me the vast majority of those owning bikes making this claim are those of the H-D persuasion, who cannot afford to let their leather chaps get wet, hence, never "riding in the rain".    ::)

Here in DK it would mean "very seldom ridden" and if you are looking for a bike with a low mileage, these are the ones to look for.

Mine is more like "washed once in a while"  ;)

Here in England it means just what Trolle, Steve inVT and others have written: the owner has made only very short trips, in certain good weather (not very usual around here!). For a BMW owner it would be a bit surprising as it's exactly for long trips that people normally buy them, and for good reason.
