Thanks kindly all, -
Oh, my. What to do. Perhaps keep it and fiddle with it over the winter? Sell it part-by-part on FleeBay/CraigsList? Run screaming? Wonder off into the wilderness whilst carrying a shopping bag of scrap cardboard and muttering incantations and nonsensical dribble into beard?
The mostly assembled bike you see in the pics is 'technically' the '79. The PO ran it for a short time then picked up the mostly-parts-bike '83 LS through fleebay. Since the '79 engine/trans were satisfactorily operational, he decided to make something of a Frankenbike out of the two. He got as far as replacing bearings in the steering head, swing arm, wheels from the LS including the twin front disc up front, cleaned up and lined the tank, reupholstered the seat, etc.
He then evidently realized the LS wheel hub/final drive wouldn't work with the standard R65 drive shaft arrangement (? :-?), so intended to fit the LS final drive unit next. About this time the train came off the rails.
At this point, I'm leaning toward continuing on the POs course and heading, install the LS final drive (?), carbs, bodywork and see if it will start, run and stop. Maybe then, reassess. Suggestions? Anyone? :-/ Whatdoyerthink?
