A new baby BMW?????
« on: September 29, 2009, 09:48:33 PM »
I have heard some rumors of BMW building a 250 cc oil cooled.......made in China motorcycle. Has anyone else gotten wind of this idea? I once had a 250 cc BMW R27........it was a love/hate relationship. I love the way the bike handled.......zipped around town. But hated it when the damn thing wouldn’t start....kick start. Beautiful handing, light, nimble....but required constant tinkering to keep it starting on the first or second kick. A Dutch rider once told me you had to fine tune after every ride. He wasn’t far off the truth there.
But a new electric start light weight...zip between the car cycle.........I could get really interested in that. Have heard it is the YY250A model looks like.....this maybe. Anyone else heard anything. I was wondering about the quality.....if BMW puts in name on it.........the quality should be ok.........shouldn't it?

Interesting looking bike.  Couldn't say about the quality though.  Depends on how closely the work is being supervised.  From what I understand the newest batch of F800's (or was it the newest batch of F650's???) are being made in China.

Interesting.  If true, then most likely you won't see it over here.  If it's being made in China then wouldn't the market most likely be the "affluent" Asian demographic?  But then again, maybe they want a share of the scooter market which is pretty hot right now.

China is an engineering powerhouse and you'll be surprised how much of what we use everyday comes out of there.

If it has a BMW name on it you can bet it will meet BMW's standards. Volkswagen have a plant there that exports around the world.

There's a huge difference between the 'cheap' $500 scooter market and the real stuff made to compete in international markets

Like a skunk on a June Bug, the media jumped all over the discovery that the engines of the Chevrolet Equinox are made at Shanghai General Motors, a joint venture of GM and the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp., a Chinese company.

The five-speed transmissions are made in Japan.

These small, Chevy-branded SUVs are assembled at a factory in Ingersoll, Ontario, a joint venture between GM and Suzuki.

Thinking that your new car is all-American ride has become rather quaint. The same holds true for motorcycles and many other products.

Even some Cummins engines are made in China

Back to the BMW .... it might be a Husqvarna as BMW are unlikely to enter the small bike market. Dont forget BM own Husky
